COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

12 oz bottle. Poured a deep, dark mahogany color. Nice tan head, too. Aroma was malted barley, some coffee notes. Flavor was robust, with rich chocolate and roasty coffee notes coming through. Palate was excellent, a thickness that didn’t get in the way but carried the flavors nicely. I plan on getting some more of this.

Aroma is inviting chocolate roasted malt. Taste is of that, together with mild hops.

A bang on porter that tastes like it sounds in the history books. Pours black with a big tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, hops, coffee, and plums. Tastes plumy, vinous, roasted malts and dark fruits. Has the perfect porter body that is low in carbonation, very smooth and not too heavy. Has a bitter malt aftertaste and a touch of sourness. This beer was fun.

Almost black beer with a nice long lasting creamy head. Aroma is very malty, sweet syrupy, caramel, roast, raisins maybe and decent hoppiness. Taste is caramel and bready malts, a bit sweet, with bittering hops. Smooth. Really good porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355 ml bottle from The Local Pub, Athens Greece. Black color with a nice thin brown head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and roasted. Taste pretty much the same with some dark fruits added. Sweet aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation.

Damn what a good Porter. As black as brown can get while still being brown, topped with a thin medium tan noggin. Smells of burnt toffee, dried cherries, raisins, molasses and toast. Bittersweet is the name of this Anchor’s game, the flavours play very interestingly on the tongue the whole time. It has a thinner body and livelier zip to it than I am used to for the style but it a welcome change. All I need is a pint a day.

Served on-tap at Shady McGrady’s a few months back. Reviewed from notes.

A - Pours deep, dark, brown; bordering on black; with a small half finger tall tan head leaving spotty lacing down the glass.

S - Smells of dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, toffee, and a hint of earthy hops. Simple yet complex.

T - Starts off with some chocolaty sweetness quickly giving way to a mix of dark roasted malt, lightly roasted coffee, toffee, and some earthy hops. It is sweet but not to the point of being overpowering. The finish is mostly dark roast, lingering for some time.

M - Medium-Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Roasty feel with plenty of it lingering through the finish.

O - Overall I enjoyed this one. It has all the elements I look for in a good porter. It possesses a good amount of sweetness with just enough roast to keep it in check.

Bottle from deeside drinks emporium. Pours a jet black with a thick Beige head which fades. Nice lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee with a slight ripe plum note. Lovely flavours of chocolate and dark fruits with an almost pine dry finish. Very nice porter.

Bottle. Great beer! One of the best Porters I’ve had. Wonderfully rich, roasted, and complex. Bitter, almost chocolaty, excellent beer.

Probably my favorite beer from Anchor Steam. No frills, bells or whistles, this is just an incredibly solid Porter. Nice malty, roasted coffee/chocolate flavor that doesn’t leave a lingering taste in your mouth like some others tend to do.
