COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

VERY dark brown pour, verging on black, but revealing ruby at the edges when held up to the light. The mocha head laces prodigiously until it settles down to a wispy film for the last half pint. The aroma of rich roasted caramel malts is paired with a herbal hoppiness and figs. The initial taste again reveals the caramel, but this is soon cut into by the leafy hops, which lend a pleasant bitterness to this drink. In fact, this is probably the only porter I’ve had where the hops have been given this prominence. Adding to this the melange of well-meshed traditional porter flavours of roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee, and you have a winner. The mouthfeel is smooth, with perfect carbonation for the flavour. Dangerously drinkable.

Dark brown/red pour, almost black with tan head. Aroma of medium roast malt and toast. Taste is sweet roast malt with very mild bitter finish. Light for a porter, but enjoyable.

Apr. ’16. A 0.355 l bottle that poured a hazy brown, copper hued body with a small to medium sized head. Really fine licorice aroma along with typical roasted malt like coffee, touch of dark fruits and caramel. Flavor was balanced with sweetness and roasted malt. Medium to thin in body with a nicely rounded finish full of cocoa, dark chocolate and toffee. Might have missed a little bit of body, but it was still an enjoyable porter.

Butelka 0,355l. Aromat z butelki bardzo przyjemny i intensywny, kawa z mlekiem i czekolada. Ciemne z rubinowymi przebłyskami, klarowne. Obfita piana.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout glass From: Bine & Vine in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $1.79 (10 pct. off for 6-pack deal) Purchased: May 4, 2016 Consumed: May 19, 2016 Misc.: Bottled on Dec. 14, 2015 Can’t remember ever enjoying an Anchor beer and I don’t expect that to change with this porter, but I’ll keep trying. Poured a mahogany color with 3-to-4 fingers of khaki tan, frothy head. Average spotty lacing. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled roasty malts, sticky toffee, spoiled dark plum, fig, raisins, hints of roasted nuts, dry chocolate, rough molasses, cocoa and unknown hops. Almost reminded me more of a dry stout. (Smell - 3.75) Tasted better than the nose and more like a porter. Got roasty malts, bitter dry chocolate malt, dry cocoa, dark plum, raisins, hints of dark fig, charred molasses, toast, muted black coffee, dark toffee and unknown generic hops that you find in cheap-ass beer (thinking DieselPunk Porter). (Taste - 3.75) Medium-to-full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00) Might have underrated this slightly overall, but just slightly. Maybe the best Anchor beer I’ve had though. (Overall - 3.75) 3.76 85 B+
