COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours a deep cloudy brown colour, with a small frothy tan head. Aroma is of slight coffee scents and toasted malt with a little bit of caramel. Taste has a nice dry bitterness with a really nice muted sweetness. Medium body, smooth mouth feel and good carbonation. Overall an amazingly good porter.

"one of the better standard (readily available in a sixer) porters out there. very smooth, lots of malt and hops, robust for the style. anchor hits the mark with this one."

12 ounce bottle. Dark translucent brown color with reddish highlights. Big rocky tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma has notes of dried fruit, coffee and floral hops. Sweet roasted malt flavor is rich and complex with notes of chocolate, coffee and toasted nuts. Chewy and thick with a creamy mouthfeel. Rich and earthy with complex layers of malt and hop flavors. This is truly one of the best American made porters I have ever tasted. Very drinkable.

This pours a dark brown color with a foamy, light brown head. The aroma is mild with caramel malts and sweet malts. The flavor is big and bold for a porter with a thinner texture that finishes slightly chalky. Really well made for a porter style brew. A must try for any porter lover!

Pours black with a white foamy head. Aroma of nuts, dark fruit, coffee. Taste is fantastic with coffee, almond, dark fruit, chocolate and an amazing complementary bitter hop taste that kicks in near the end. Fantastic porter, especially if you take the ABV into account this is a great brew.

12 fl.oz. bottle - pours black with tan head that fizzled out fairly quickly. coffee and dark chocolate in aroma. Carbonation more noticeable than expected for this style. Taste is coffee and dark chocolate, and something else I couldn’t quite isolate.... licorice / aniseed ?

bartlebier (1802) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - OCT 12, 2014
12oz bottles, once a year 2012-2014, last 10/2014. A debonair dry and balanced everyday porter full of subtle aniseed, minty, roasted and dried red berry sidetracks diverting from the main event, an expertly dosed Wiener mélange with liquorice infusion. In the league of Old World grandmaster Fuller’s: a humble sessioning classic to remind boisterous West Coast pyrotechnicians that bigger is not always better.

12oz bottle. Deep brown with a creamy tan head. Flavors are chocolate, caramel, marshmallows, licorice, dark fruits, roasted malts and coffee. Medium body, soft carbonation, creamy texture. Deliciously unusual.

adamnowek (136) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 9, 2014
Jet black and pours smooth. Bitter coffee in taste and a little bit more carbonation than you would expect with a porter. The carbonation sure helps with making this seem a lot less heavy than all of the other clues would prepare you for. Delicious.

Appearance: pours with a small tan head that dissipates quickly, opaque black color, maybe some brown on the corners Aroma: sweet milk, coffee, flowers, subtle Taste: coffee, has a bitter punch to it, some dark roasted grain, moderate bitter finish Palate: lively carbonation, medium mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: a pretty good porter, subtle flavors with a nice strong bitterness to this beer, nor too thick on the tongue, gets better and more milky as it warms ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
