COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons originated with the rustic farmhouse ales of Wallonia, a mostly French-speaking region of Belgium. Bière de saison was brewed during the saison froide (cold season) for consumption during the warmer months. Today saisons are made and enjoyed year-round. Anchor Saison Spring Ale (7.2% ABV) is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, Anchor chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

No retention and no lacing. Smells of grass, ginger and floral. Tastes of spices, lemon and ginger. Spicy aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy orange-gold color with a 1-finger bone-colored head. Lemony aroma with a light bite of ginger. Body is light and a touch oily. Dry finish. Flavor of lemon with a light ginger note. An earthy note mixes with some black pepper at the back.

330ml bottle (Sip, Tallinn)
Orange, brief head. Very spicy aroma. Like an italian pasta sauce. With tomatoes. And even with the tins! Better in the mouth. Light palate, a bit watery, crispish carbonation. Sweet spicy taste, hard to describe, some herbal aspects, some basil maybe, clearly some interesting fermentation has gone on. A bit of alcohol too alas, and some other solventy aspects. Curious experiment went a bit wrong, methinks. Gimme gimme gimme dupont...

355ml bottle. Clear dark piss like color. Tiny size, white head, disappears. Metallic, very malty, sweet, yeasty, herbal in aroma. Sweet, bit smoked, herbal, faint huskiness and some hops in taste. Minty hops and sweet in aftertaste. Carbonation is quite high. Well as double imperial saison- is drinkable.

Taikurissa 8/2016. Quite sweet saison, not as fresh I hoped. Not very good saison.

12oz bb02/2017 courtesy of Secret Summer Santa Saeglopur amidst a host of AT goodies, merci! - Bref: this fruit-spiked super saison bears the phenolic weight and oiliness of a Belgian tripel - less than refreshing, decent enough Belgian ale, poor saison. - Smells like a peach and marilla liqueur forward macro tripel sans the industrial white sugars. Added lemongrass, lemons and ginger feel sticky even in aroma as if boiled down into a jam preservative. Dense mouthfeel, not dry or airy enough for a saison even going by dense Fantôme or Pipaix standards. Drinks heavy like a tripel. Odd. cf. Braufactum Soleya, SchnW Mathilda.

35.5cl bottle at Uncle Babe’s Burger Bar, Ghent (22 VII 2016), shared with a friend. Cognac-like brew with pretty stable yellow foam on top. The nose has keen hints of flowers and malts, a great Belgian-American combo. The mouthfeel has many wheat hints, and despite its +7% ABV there is little alcohol sensation. The taste is light bitter with spiced character, medium sweet and fruity. Lovely.

Bottle. Very non-saison looking, clear, amber pour with a medium white head, good retention. Nose is faint yeast funk, grass, white pepper, glue. Mouth is medium bodied, kinda sweet, slight spiciness from yeast, lemon, lilies, wallpaper paste. Not a good example of the style and not really good - in any sense - at all.

Slightly hazy orange color with a bit of white head. Aroma has malt sweetness, some yeast spice and orange flavor. Taste starts with yeast spice, malt sweetness, a bit of sugar and some fermented citrus fruits. Body is on the light side, quite dry, with medium carbonation.

Cloudy amber with a medium beige head. Nose of spice, zest, grapefruit, some hoppy herbal and piney notes. Medium sweetness followed by light crispy bitterness on par with carbonation acidity. Fairly dry body, high carbonation, a little alco warmth on finish. Dry and crispy yet spicy and warming, perfect for springtime, though a tad too sweet.

Bright amber pour with thin white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruity and boozy. Flavours are interesting but very much not for me. Much too sweet and boozy. Very heavy and cloying. Never again.
