COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons originated with the rustic farmhouse ales of Wallonia, a mostly French-speaking region of Belgium. Bière de saison was brewed during the saison froide (cold season) for consumption during the warmer months. Today saisons are made and enjoyed year-round. Anchor Saison Spring Ale (7.2% ABV) is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, Anchor chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

No retention and no lacing. Smells of grass, ginger and floral. Tastes of spices, lemon and ginger. Spicy aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured clear light amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma of sweet, spicy barnyard and sweet malt. Medium body, flavour is medium sweet, lightly bitter. Nice and creamy, not sure I’d call this a saison though.

Bottle from Wholefoods High St Kensington. Clear rich rusty orange, nose is caramel, orange, lemongrass, Brett yeast, barley grain, orange peel. Taste is really nice. Quite rich for a saison with elements of Anchors caramel and malt profiles from Steam Beer, but with Belgian yeast, lemongrass, orange and lemon peel, lemon juice. Rich and nicely balanced. Hope this becomes a regular. Finish is crisp brettt yeast and a lemon citrous tang.

Liked it as a Belgian ale, but not really as a saison. Had that Sam Adams grains of paradise thing going on (though GOP are not present)...a touch heavy in body for the style, but it worked, kinda. Peppery and spiced, liked the light ginger and lemongrass throughout. Not their best, but nice enough

Bottle. A fruity and spicy yeast dominated saison with heavy notes of citrus. The maltiness is maybe a bit too sweet.

Appearance: Pours amber with a sudsy head that subsides to nothing.

Aroma: Fruit and fresh cut flowers. A similar spicy malty mix as Anchor Xmas.

Taste: Fruity spicy yeast, ginger, euro hops, white pepper.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with modest prickly carbonation.

Overall: At face value, you this is a solid beer, really nothing not to like about it. As far as Saisons go, this was played way too safe. Not very rustic, not lively enough, and tasted awfully similar to Anchor’s other offerings.

Bottle from Glug Newcastle. Very strong flavours of lemon, cloves and spices... Almost overpowering but for the soft fruit undercurrent. Not one you can have every day but a satisfying take on the style

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear amber pour with a big off white head, yeast and banana aroma, taste is very wit with spice, banana, some phenols, Belgian yeast character, not the most saison of saisons.
