COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

przyjemny, lekko kwiatowy i owocowy zapach z lekkimi nutami karmelu i słodu. ładny, przejrzysty kolor wypolerowanej miedzi z niewielkim zmętnieniem. piana obfita i dość długotrwała w kolorze złamanej bieli. w smaku pełne, słodowe, ale mimo to dość lekkie i pijalne. wyczuwalne karmelowe nuty. średnia, bardzo czysta goryczka która długo odkłada się w ustach. niskie wysycenie. bardzo pijalne i przyjemne

Bottle from Yamaya. Haven’t had it for a few years, so let’s see. Rich fruity nose, with caramel and light raisiny notes; overall, a very balanced scent. Deep pretty copper/amber color. Malty initial, bittering is a bit rough and scratchy, and a bit piney in finish. Some rusted metal aspect is also apparent. Medium body, and a very pleasant mouthfeel. Mildish, but lots of flavors, pleasant, sessiony stuff. This was probably the first craft beer I ever had, way back in the 70s, while living in the Bay Area. It was definitely more of a special beer in those days.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Nice looking beer with a fairly good nose and taste, but the bitterness was not the most satisfying kind and a bit of an astringent finish. A good fallback beer but not my top choice.

Butelka 355ml. Delikatnie przypomina zapach whisky. USTA : średnio gazowane o konsystencji trochę bardziej gęstej od wody. Puszyste i aksamitne w ustach. Słodowe nuty są umiarkowanie słodkie. Przypominają lekko palony karmel i złocisty tost. Piwo łatwe w piciu o ciekawych estrach. Na dłuższą metę może znudzić. Brakuje trwałości w smaku, szczególnie w ciekawych nutach słodowych. OCENA : smak : 6/10 pijalność : 7/10 styl : +1

Bottle. Want to put a California Common tick on the profile, and what better way to start than to drink the originator? A: Dark copper/red with a fluffy white head N: Biscuit, toffee, malt, cracker, pine notes. (Pine nuts?) Some almond in here. Cereal grains. T: Moderately sweet with a undercurrent of hop bitterness. A little toasty. M: Creamy, carbonated, medium to light body. O: A post-hard work, Salinas county/John Steinbeck type beer. It’s the type of thing I think about in those descriptions of Old German. Throw it down, there’s another coming.

The highly-touted beer from San Fran that I first read about in The Beer Book, (1982, by Bob Able), was disappointing. Though a good step ahead of "plain beer", IMO, the beer has great difficulty holding any place with the excellent brews we see appearing at the local beer store, today.
