COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

35cl bottle from a beer retailer. It pours an unclear deep amber liquid with a foamy and consistent beige head; a little lacing. The aroma is almost entirely malty: sweet, with caramel; it resembles a belgian double. There is also a hint of yeast, and almost no hops presence. It tastes likewise, very very malty, with a good deal of sweetness. Low on bitterness, it is softly carbonated, full-bodied and finishes dry, leaving a pleasant sweet malty aftertaste with some herbal hops. A good crafted beer. They’re not trying to be radical here, just trying to make a stable and good tasting brew. Nice presentation (bottle and crown cap), as always with Anchor BC.

Sample from a 12 oz. bottle (thanks Wade). Pours a clear brown with ample head. The aroma is musty earth, pine sap, and coffee. The flavor is bitter and lightly balanced with malts. The palate is heavy and a little astringent. Overall, bitter and boring.

Bottle: Light amber coloured and a bit hazy, small off-white layer; moderate caramelly-bready nose with a slight hoppy and fruity background; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; more bitterness in the malty-fruity finish, followed by a hoppy "tail". Pleasant, indeed....

Deep orange fizzy body with off-white head. Yeasty, grassy aroma with caramel. Full mouthfeel, plenty carbonation. Nice bitter flavour, lasting finish.

Very impressed... lovely balanced beer with rich caramel malt body cut by fine, intergrated hop bitterness and some USA hop raspyness.

On tap: Golden pour with a full finger solid head. Head dissipates fast leaving solid rings with every sip. Malty caramel aroma with hints of citrussy hops. Lots of body with low carbonation. Significant residual sweetness balanced well with hop bitterness. Balanced hop & malt finish.

Served on tap at the SFO airport. The appearance is a medium gold hue to an amber with a slight chill haze. The aromas are medium light bodied malts and some English hop notes. The flavors are a slightly drying English hop with a good dose of pale malts. The mouth is highly carbonated and medium bodied. A tasty beer but I find the drying effect counter-refreshing.

Not what I expected a little disappointing, it was a quite malt and grainy, it tasted unfinished or something like it just was a full bodied beer, prob won;t have it again
