COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2011 Anchor Steam Beer pitkästä aikaa lasissa ja täten uudelleenarvioinnissa. Väriltään se on kullan värinen, jossei jopa hieman oranssinen. Vaahto taasen on valkoista. Tuoksultaan olut on hedelmäinen ja makean maltainen, hieman karamellinen. Maussa tulee esiin hieman humalointia ja sen tuomaa katkeruutta. Hedelmäisyyttäkin on. Tämä osoittautuu myös hieman paahtuneeksi ja tunkkaiseksi. Samat pisteet kuin n. 9kk sitten, mutta osa-alueittain erilaiset pisteet.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2010 I try so hard to enjoy this one, but once I started with Anchor Porter, everything else seems inferior.

Bottle: Pours a clear amber, medium off-white head with good lacing. Aroma of malt and mild earthy hops. Flavor of mild caramel with minimal bitterness, a good mild session beer.

12 oz bottle, poured at home. Pours a clear orange amber -- head is white and pretty thick right off the back, but disappears relatively quickly. Aroma is a light caramel and honeysuckle. Taste is similar -- caramel, honey, some grassy hops, a light bitterness. There’s a metallic taste to it -- something kind of cheap and macro-esque -- which leaves this beer firmly in the "OK for a session on a warm day," but ultimately boring.

Bottle from Systembolaget. This is a good one to pop when coming home from work on Friday afternoon, when you really just want a cold one. Not too complex, but not completely watered down either.

Got a golden colour with a low foam. On the nose there is a slight maltdominated aroma, with a funky smell with bread and salt meat. For the taste its rich with a mild bitternes, a hint of burnt malt but more towards caramelle malt. Yummy! A new style of beer for me, hope I will drink many more!

pours a clear gold with a thick white head that hangs and laces. The beer is weak on the nose but I think I’m picking up some spicy, earthy types of hops along with a caramel backbone. balanced. Medium-light body with a hopp bitter dry finish, also a bit thin on the finish. Getting malt sweetness on the tongue first followed by the bitterness. Muted spicy and earthy hops. Bitterness lingers through the finish and then some. A classic yes, all that great no.

pours golden brown in colour with little head. Notes are nutty malts with a slight hint of peach or something fruity. on the palate it is medium bodied, some sourness and a slight malted note. not half as bad as i thought it would be. good session beer.
