COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Amber with a great, foamy head. Aroma is like bread with some dark syrup mixed in. Taste is slightly hoppy/bitter with toast in there too. It’s a pretty good beer - I had forgotten how good it is.

It seemed to have a hint of citrus up front with a kick of bitterness at the end. Not my favorite, but not bad either.

A malty beer that’s actually pretty good for summer drinking. Loved the aroma and taste.

I hadn’t had an Anchor Steam since visiting SanFransisco about ten years ago. Perhaps my bottle was aged but the beer had a skunky aroma. The beer had a great appearance, a nice amber color, clear costitution with a nice frothy white foam. Perhaps also because of it’s age, or not, it was slightly bitter with a light body and oily feel, average carbonation, and finished with an astringent tatse. I seemed to remember it as a more special beer than it was this time.

Not a bad brew at all. Fairly forgettable. There is a very bizarre off flavor that I can’t explain.

Pours orange... foamy head, not QUITE white. Aroma is a bit leafy, with some weak citrus. Slight peanuts taste (something of a feature with steam beers?). Medium body, average carbonation. A good product, to be drink in most occasions. Just don’t expect a masterpiece.

A great thirst quencher all around. Subtle hop notes off the top with an easy, medium body. Smoothe finish. Very good summer sipper, or gulper :)

Pours a clear copper orange; soapy head. Weak orange citrus aroma and some coriander mixed in. Good straight forward malt flavor with some trailing light citrus, almost like the white pith of an orange. Overall, it’s good and easy drinking; enjoyable.
