COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Pours a amber carmel color with a off white head which fades to deccent lacing. aroma is of sweet malts, yeast, and some floral hops. flavor is of sweet malts, some floral pine and grapefruit hops, and some carmel. has a medium-light body wiith a slighty watery mouhfeel, and a bitter, short finnish. overall, a deccent beer that is drinkable and thus makes a good session beer.

Pours golden brown, medium white head that diminishes quickly with heavy lacing. Mild, sweet malt aroma. Taste is light malty sweetness with a fairly strong bitter finish that lingers, and a very slight floral notes. Light body, pretty low carbonation. Good summer session beer.

From bottle. Poured red/amber clear. Very large, foamy head. Not much aroma for me. Foam subsided in short order. Crisp, clean taste. Bitterness almost tastes like hops in a very light bread. Interesting, as I felt I could smell bread, but the aroma isn’t strong at all, and I may imagine it. Looks and smells very much like any average beer. But the taste exceeds the appearance, very drinkable and I will have again!

Appearance: Poured a medium caramel with a substantial 2-3 finger light cream head which dissipated fairly quickly to about 1 finger leaving minimal lacing. Smell: Hints of bitter citrus with sweet malt. Very nice combination. Taste: Nice bite at the beginning fading into citrus. A very nice bitterness builds up to the finish. Bitter aftertaste that isn’t overpowering. Very enjoyable. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a bite. Your mouth feels coated with it even after swallowing. Mouth waters a bit for more. Not too heavy nor too light; just about right. Drinkability: Goes down exceptionally smooth and leaves you wanting more. Definitely not too heavy to enjoy several in a sitting. Very drinkable. Overall: I’d rate Anchor Steam as a very solid beer. Great flavor and high drinkability make this one I would recommend and will definitely continue to purchase. Glad I found this one about 8 months ago. Highly recommended.

This poured s somewhat dark amber color with an off white head. Aroma was somewhat toasted, mild vinous character as well. Flavor was medium bodied toasted malts, and some caramel in their too. Fairly bland but nothing offensive
