COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

355 ml bottle, Alko. Poured dark amber color, frothy white head. Aroma is maly and slightly fruity. Flavor is malty and fruity hoppy, with a hint of caramel. Ends harsh and quite bitter. Enjoyable, as have the other Anchor beers I have tried this far been.

Sweet in scent with a touch of light yeast. Slightly sweet flavor that ends in a light, refreshing bitterness. Commonly available in most places near the Bay Area that is always a safe bet.

Poured a clear reddish amber with a stable off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity with pale malts. Taste is sweet and malty. Finish is nutty and slightly bitter. Very smooth through with a little fruit flavor. Very good!

Poured from a brown bottle with no freshness date on it. Color is a nice light orange/straw. Head is just a slight off white that keeps for a while. Nice lacing observed. Smells very subtle, but of hints of honey. Taste is very clean. Not much going on, but very wonderful. I would note the small taste of fruit in this. Very good carbonation. Overall, this is quite the beer. I have never had a steam beer, but I do like it. I am more of a dark beer drinker, but I could see this being a nice session beer. Bought in a six pack across the street from my San Francisco Hotel. Smells hoppy and grainy - and it tastes just the same. Smooth oaty, grainy beginning followed by a medium bitter finish. Still a good beer though even though I do not like Bitter finishes. Definitely will be finishing this six pack tonight.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with off-white head. Taste is mildly bitter with bit of tartness. Palate is soft, creamy. Aromas have rich maltyness, grass, nuts.

A clear deep amber body below a medium-high head of two inches, slighly off-white in the tulip. The aroma is malty sweet, with notes of prune and spice, some toasty breadiness also evident. A fairly lightweight body, with medium carbonation and a firm hop bite. The flavor is sweet, with some toasted biscuit, and the hop bitterness cutting through it all. Very drinkable and delicious.
