COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Pours an impressive sight: clear, amber body crowned with a majestic, creamy head that seems to last forever. Nose is mellow light malts and a sting of grassy hops. Taste is smooth and mild like an ale, with hints of both fruity and grassy hops tucked into a well-laid sweet malt foundation. Low carbonation, but not flat in any way. Anchor Steam Beer is indeed a very tasty lager beer.

Creamy, frothy, two-fingered, milkshake type of a head that had tremendous lacing and really hung around of the glass. I smelled sweet caramel immediately and got a slight hint of some floral hops with backgrounds of an earthy/herbal aroma. I tasted the sweet caramel first and also got a splash of pine. Nice bitter aftertaste that really stuck around on the tongue. Medium/chewy mouthfeel that was smooth and really coated the palate. I really like this beer. It’s very nice!!! This is one of my favorites for sure. Another beer that I could drink during any season.

12 Oz. Pous a deep amber color with medium that resides quickly. Aroma is grainy with the slightest notes of darker malts. Flavor is similar with a nice crisp hop bitterness and light malt sweetness. Very easing drinking and light bodied. Definitely grows on you, the flavors seem to emerge more after a little while.

Oddly enough, I don’t remember ever trying Anchor Steam prior to today! Squatty 12oz. bottle pours a clear amber-brown with a nice bubbly off-white head that leaves nice drippy lacing. Aroma is grainy with a touch of caramel. Flavors match, showcasing light floral hops, raw grain, some spices unidentifiable to my weak palate, and zingy hops. Nice, clean beer.
