COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

I was a bit disappointed with this one. It looked great from the pour, a nice clean amber color, medium sized white head, no retention, barely any lacing. apples and bread evident from the get-go for the smell, with subtle hints of grass. light oily body, little carbonation. slight taste of caramel and fruits, but for the most part, pretty boring. Finished it in a few minutes. Will I drink it again? maybe for a cookout.

amber, white head. Aroma, malty, grainy, dry fruits, apple nose. Flavors, grainy and malty with a light bitter finish. Light palate, pale malts, some spiced hops, dry mouthfeel. Not my style.

Pours a dark amber colour, slightly hazy with a big frothy tan head that dissipates. The aroma is honey-like, somewhat fruity (banana) with earthy scents and it has a noticeable yeast smell as well. The taste is nice, a little malty and spicy and the finish is fairly bitter although the aftertaste lingers a bit to long. Overall a fairly nice beer.

355ml bottle. Pours a clear copper colour with almost white head that laces quickly. Slightly sweet, non-descript nose. A malty punch up front that levels out with a nice hint of bitterness and a good lingering finish. Off the beaten path just enough to be interesting.

On tap at PFChang’s. Very clear amber. Light white head. Decent lacing. Earthy hop scent and flavor. Slight caramel/honey sweetness. Very smooth. Nice finish. Not extraordinary, but a very solid beer.

This is a decent beer. Nothing special, but not bad.

(draught at Meddlesome Moth) cloudy deep orange pour, great creamy head and excellent lacing. Nose of cereal grain, earth and honey. Taste of cereal grains, honey, an light earth. Light to medium creamy body. Verg drinkable.

Poured from bottle. Nose has fruit, cereal, and spice -- an almost winey odor to it with faint savory undertones. Pours a rich gold-brown with a moussy, long-lasting head. The flavor is rich and complex, with roast and spice predominating; hops bitterness clears out the finish beautifully. A classic American beer. I really hope the buyout doesn’t screw it up.
