COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Pours copper with a creamy head that’s tall but goes away fast. Smells kinda hoppy and grassy. Not very strong. The taste is not bad at all. Balanced to a little on the hoppy side. Has a little bit of a strange metallic taste. Very bright and carbonated in the mouth. A little slick on the finish. Pretty darn drinkable. It does however leave a little of that odd metallic aftertaste in my mouth and a bit of that slickness on my tounge.

Clear amber with a small white head. Not much carbonation in this bottle. Moderate amount of hop bitterness. Nice clean finish. An excellent summer brew to cool down with.

Had from six-pack from BevMo. Pours a beautiful copper color with slight head, slight lacing, and good carbonation. Aroma is malty - hints of toast and caramel. Good balance of malts and hops with a little more of a lean towards malts. Finishes dry and sweet, very nice.

Bottle @ Paul’s Club in Madison - Pours light amber with a small white head. Smells nutty with some lightly sweet malt and grassy hops. Sweet and caramelly in the mouth, with a bit of syrupy molasses, nuttiness, and dry, grassy hops on the finish. Light and pretty carbonated. A very interesting beer that I’d like to have again, even though I wasn’t really impressed by it.

Bottle. Malt and weak hops in aroma. Amber colour with soft beige head. Nice flavour of malt, caramel og hops bitterness. Nothing extraordinary.

Pours a nice amber color. Reminds me of some of the brown ales I’ve tried. Somewhat bitter. Good beer.

Carmel and malt nose, brownish red, balance of carmel and malts with a earthy hop profile. Oily texture with med carbonation and slight bitter finish. The lager yeast produces interseting off flavors when fermented at ale temps that make keep drinking this one. A solid bar beer.

A- Transparent Golden amber body with minimal white head. Head fades rather quickly. Leaves behind little lacing in the glass. S- Somewhat of a dry fruity nose with accents of hops. Caramel malt in the background. T- Dry fruits and some spicy hops with a lager yeast backbone. Finish is a balance of caramel malt and bitter hops. Sweet caramel malt lingers. P- High carbonation and thin lager body. Goes down smooth. O- This is a pretty drinkable brew-but nothing special. It was interesting to try this steam beer. Definately worth a try.
