COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

This beer is not as good as I think the ratings are. It tastes like a pilsner but it is a little bit more bitter and metallic tasting. The Anchor Bock style was much better.

Sparkling amber color with an egg shell colored head and lacing create the appearance. A sweet morning fresh flower bouquet, touches of fruit, and fresh cut hay make up the nose. This is a medium bodied brew with a nice mixture of hop, malt, crisp, and clean. A solid every day, every mood beer.

12 oz bottle into English pint. I’ve always loved the shape of Anchor’s bottles. Very "Ahoy, matey!" mariner-like. Very malty nose. Smells like caramel. Pours amber gold with a little head and just decent lacework. Tastes like an amber to me, no different. Definitely a quality amber, but just an amber nonetheless. Highly carbonated. Finishes with a grainy aftertaste. I think this beer’s reputation as the impetus for America’s craft beer revolution far exceeds the actual taste of the beer. Overrated (but I bow down before you, Mr. Maytag, for taking beer to the next level here in the U.S. Without your drive, we might all still be drinking mass produced pale lagers.).

Nice lively complex taste. Pours a medium light yellow with a white head. Smooth and delicious!

Amber colored brew with no aroma noticeable. Served in pint glass, decent white head formation which gradually fades away. Crisp/refreshing taste with some sweet malts and a slight hint of caramel. Smooth and easy to drink, but it is a bland beer overall.

orangish pour with a medium head that quickly dissipates. a bit of citrus, malty feel. some noble hops. a good all around session beer.

Not sure what expectations I should have of this due to the style but this is the most known of the style. A pint of this from on tap did hit the spot. Orange color with a light head. Noble hop aroma and a light sweet malt taste. Even kilter beer.
