COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Nice and refreshing typical steam beer. Golden color and tastes of light malt, some hop, bread, and cereal. Nothing bad about this, but nothing spectacular either.

Pours a quite clear deep orange amber colour with small medium head. Smells malty, maple, slightly caramel honey; maybe a bit generic, but nice and fresh. Taste is a good sweet/malt and hoppy/citrus bitter blend, piny, slighlty spicy, very crisp, simple and tasty. Lively carbonation, and not that light bodied as you imagine, quite substantial for being 5%. It’s really ok beer, refreshing

BB 11/7/2015. Poured a clear orange-amber colour with a few millimetres of off white bubbles that diminished quickly to a collar that laced poorly. Carbonation low and coarse. Aroma strongly of sweetish caramel malt with no obvious hops. Taste medium sweet caramel malt with a citrus bitterness. Light body. Crisp with a strong malt as well as a slightly tart finish.

The archetypical steam beer after a late-19th-century tradition and arguably the one beer that kicked off the American micro brewery revolution. Thick, dense, stable foam on a purely amber coloured beer; malty and fruity aroma, nuts, grassy hops, soft taste with an appetising, rounded maltiness, sweetish fruitiness and nice peppery hoppiness in the finish. Liked this historical monument a lot back in 2004 and I should definitely find a new one to re-rate.

Flaska från Systembolaget. Klar bärnstensfärgad vätska med lågt vitt skum. Doftar äpple och jäst. Jästig smak och något kryddig. Lite tunn men helt ok.

355 ml bootle, 4.8% amber beer with good foamy white head, although the head does not last long. A light beer, ale-like, barley malt with some fruity sweetness. Balanced and tasty.

Clear amber color, fast disappearing white head. Bubblegum and biscuit aroma. Medium to heavy sweetness. Thin to medium body, average carbonation. Refreshing. Not bad, but expected little bit more.

A beer I have had many time but has taken years to rate. Pour is dark amber with a off white head. Aroma is malts, wheat and citrus. A great year round beer that is better spring summer and fall. A little like a full body wheat and larger mix. A nice sweetness mix with cereal notes.

Pours a beautiful coppery gold with lots of creamy, fizzy head that sticks around forever. Nose toasted malt, caramel, yeast, a bit of earthy hop dryness. Toasted grain, caramel, with a bit of hay/grass, very nicely balanced with a crisp, clean lager finish. No real bold tastes, nothing intense, just a really well-executed simple beer. The great execution somehow transcends the fairly traditional taste profile, and elevates this beer to near 4/5 status. Not quite as good as their Liberty Ale, IMHO, but very nice.

Bottle split with Sarah at home picked up from the Bottle:Shop St Albans. Aroma is caramel, some earthy sileage, hay, nuts and a touch metalic. Nice light amber / orange coloured pour with a lasting off white head. Clear. Flavour is caramel, nutty malts, melanoidin sugars with some dried fruits, raisin, slight tart berry lingering the finish. Mineral and slight chalk in the water profile. Hops are earthy and some grassy silage. Palate is medium sweet, with quite high carbonation. Slight crisp in the finish. Resembles a best bitter in some ways. Tasty enough malty beer.
