COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

deep yellow with a thin white head. muted aromas of nuts and fruit. Flavor a bit skunked pretty sweet. nice quafflable beer, but for the price you can do much better.

Has an aweful after-taste. Going in your mouth is ok, going down is like taking your medicine. Interesting bottle though.

Bootle. Apperance; Amber with a small light brown head. Not to much aroma and flavor, some malt.

Standard amber beer. Funny aftertaste. I’d have to try it again to get a better impression of it.

Tap @ some bar in SF a couple blocks from Haight & Ashbury. Poured a light amber. Grassy aroma with some background malt. Taste is cereal malt with some earthy hops. Thinly textured. This is essentially a fizzy yellow beer with some additional nuance. I’d prefer this over a macro lager, but not much else.

Not what I expected a little disappointing, it was a quite malt and grainy, it tasted unfinished or something like it just was a full bodied beer, prob won;t have it again

Bottle from the victoria inn birmingham. Pours amber haze with no head. Lager style aroma and taste. Light orange taste. I have had this off tap and it was great. Disappointing from the bottle.

Date: December 9, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: Heritage Description: Orangish brown pour with nice head and some lacing, aroma of yeast, bread and malt / caramel. Taste is not that good, kind of like dirty water with a metallic finish. Got a new style crossed off the list, but eesh maybe I got a bad bottle of this stuff or something.

Brassy color on the red side of orange and clear. Aroma of generous malt and the very faintest reminder of orange liquor; ’clean’ tasting, says the commercial description, meaning you can’t taste dirt or toxic waste; gee, that’s no help. Fortunately, it’s not clean like a hospital floor but rather has rich, ginger-like spiciness and a bitter finish.

Maybe it’s different in the pouring rain of England as you Americans seem to like it, I was not impressed. Labelled as a Californian Common? A new one on me, showing my lack of geekiness. Will try it again and give it a chance. And I’ll try to get more of this style to make a decent comparison.
