kempicus (162), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 17, 2007 pours a chestnut brown with decent head, flavour reminds me of warm ripe bananas. Big bodied malty with a good hop finish, very pleasant beer
DrDavid (157), , Vermont, USA Aug 29, 2008 (Bottle). Decidedly malty aroma. Beautiful amber color with a decent white head. Flavor is pleasing if ultimately underwhelming. A bit nutty, and with some slight hoppy bite. Mild dry finish. 09maso3 (4), vancouver, British Columbia, Canada does not count Aug 28, 2008 Anchor steam beer is a great refreshing summer beer, but doesn’t cut corners on flavor either. Light orange with a smallish head, citrussy flavor. good to enjoy on a summer’s evening PaulHegedus (43), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Served fresh on draught at the Brewery, this beer has none of the unpleasant bitterness that I find in imported bottles here in Toronto. A nice hoppy ale. Someone mentioned grassiness, and I agree. This is a workers session ale. bluemooner (75), Rogers, Minnesota, USA Aug 26, 2008 Pours a dark shade of amber with a medium, foamy, white head. Tastes of malt, caramel, with noticeable but very balanced presence of hops. Very light body and drinkable. Good beer. TheBeerBaron (162), Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 Light copper color, fading white head turns into just white film on top. No carbonation in the glass. Even malt and hop aroma that is somewhat floral. Nothing unusual to the aroma. The palate tends to the watery side. Bitter flavor dominates the tongue. There is an amount of malt in the beer but mainly its the hops that makes a biting IPA type Ale. Just an average ale, perhpas this beer’s reputation was forged before the proliferation of craft beer in America.
