mmm///beer (521), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 20, 2008 A brew that I have had dozens of times but now for an official review- 22 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured transparent brownish tan, low carbonation, white head after initial poured than transformed itself into a white ring around the glass after a few minutes. Weak aroma of malt, bread, and charcoal. Hits the mouth with a light-medium body, malt comes through cleanly, sweet note towards the backend, finish glides away nicely. An American micro staple and classic.
fredandboboflo (440), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of yellow, orange, red fruits, pale/caramel malt, floral hops that blend in nicely. Flavor has a rich toasted character mingling with all the fruitiness and light hop bitterness. Full bodied but easy drinking and refreshing. Very nice beer. Imperial-John (84), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 355ml Bottle. Light amber with small white head. Light malt aroma. Pleasantly clean, crisp, dry taste with clean, dry aftertaste. Good maintenance beer for a hot thirsty summer day. Not as bitter as the Liberty. dlovell2 (102), Columbia, Maryland, USA Aug 16, 2008 Brown color white head. Slight malt aroma. Sweet malt taste with slight hop finish. Good smooth beer. MaltDawg (287), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 15, 2008 Faint clean pale malt aroma. Clear light amber with small white head. Clean pale malt flavor with touch of caramel and slight bitterness. Light body and mouthfeel. Nice dry finish with low bitterness. NomDeBeer (129), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 15, 2008 Darker color than I expected, not sure why because this is my first California Common . . . possibly my last if this is representative of the style. Flavor is wet cardboard and the kind of sweet malt you might find in a bad Begian Dubbel. Drinkable, but not by much.
