COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

A classic, of course. The beer pours a beautiful amber with a bountiful, creamy head. Flavors of citrus, yeast, and cider are plentiful. A well balanced flavor without lots of carbonation. Perfectly refreshing by itself or with a meal.

Copper/Dark yellow with head. Interesting beer that treads the line between "clean crisp easy drinking" and "flavourful" quite well. Grainy malts run the show but it stays balanced.

Nice amber colored pour. Small off-white to white head that sticks around for a little bit. Small amount of lacing. Nice malty aroma with a bit of hops. Taste is a smooth malt flavor rounded out with a bit of a hop presence, but not overly so. This is one of my regular buys and can’t believe I haven’t rated this until now. Clean and smooth.

Bottle from Alko. Amber color, medium white head. Slightly bitter taste with nuts, some hops, caramel, toast and dry finish. Pretty high carbonation in the bottle version at least. Unique and very enjoyable brew.

A mild tasting microbrew, but a good choice as it has a fine texture and taste.

I really enjoyed this beer in SF; it’s still good but so much better there. Maybe I just like SF, but this beer brings it all back. None of the descriptors relate beer to place; I can’t imagine SF without this beer, and unfortunately vice versa. I’m surprised this isn’t more highly rated; it’s nearly a national brand yet tastes like beer should, bud.

This has been one of my favorites for several years. Great nut brown appearance. Has a slight sweet taste with apparent hoppiness. I prefer it from draught but bottle is enjoyable too.

Breay and sweet lemon aroma. Clean crisp taste. Delicate carbination, due perhaps to smaller bubbles? Quite smooth and almost no finish.

Pours a copper color with a little bit of head and lacing. Has a bready malty and crisp lager aroma. Taste keeps the malty sweetness, but adds a nice soft bitterness and a hint of the hops. Very drinkable.

Pours amber with a finger of white head. Aroma of caramel and some light grassy hops. Taste is about the same. Light sweet and light bitter. Medium bodied with a thick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. It’s a style I would like to try more of.

Amber colour with a small white head. Very good aroma with fruit/citrus. Light body, a bit watery. Very light carbonation. Taste is not very strong. It’s a bit weak beer overall in my opinion.
