COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Poured from a draft into a Monster pint (33.9 oz.) at Woodstock’s in San Diego, Calif. Caramel looking. About a 1 ½ fingers of head. Nice white cloudy lacing. Sporadic and cloudy film on the sides. Smelled bread and grains mostly. Kind of a freshness smell, but heavy (malty) as well. Tasted pretty similar to the nose. Reminded me of a pilsner. Bready and grainy. Clean, light and crisp. Medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Smooth, clean and crisp finish. A bit disappointed overall. I don’t know why, but I was expecting a lot more.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pilsner glass Aroma: hay and leaves heavy in the aroma. little bit of alcohol and quite skunky Appearance: brownish copper and very clear. 3 finger white frothy head that lingered. Laces glass extremely well. Very few bubbles Taste: bitter upfront and slightly sweet in the end. little bit of sour in there as well. Palate: Medium body and thin texture. very fizzy carbonation on the tongue. Abrupt finish. Overall: Bought in a mixer 6 and wasnt sure what to expect from this. Pleasantly surprised but probably wont purchase again. I dont think i could drink more than a couple of these. The skunkiness reminded me of a Heineken or Becks.

12 ounce bottle. This is a well made beer just a boring style. Lots of malt, grainy, bready, toasty. Good beer, malt focused, easy drinking.

355 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours reddish golden with a small white head that leaves some trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, fruity and slightly metallic with bread, grapes, plums and very ripe peaches. Taste is malty sweet and slightly bitter with bread, golden syrup, grapes, plums and lemon peal. Finish is slightly sweet and rather bitter with citrus zest.

Pour deep amber with a thick creamy white mostly diminishing head. Inviting aromas of medium intensity with sweet malts. Medium in intensity, body and aftertaste. Creamy texture with sweet roasted malty flavors and a rich well balanced quality. Greatly Appreciated
