Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Not much to say about this one except they should leave wheat beer to the Bavarians

Nice wheat taste, but light and watery body. Expected more in this department. Finish is zesty and fruity. Mild in general.

Pours a clear medium gold with some bronze color around the edges, there are some particles floating around in this brew, has a fluffy foamy white head that has good resiliency, left some lacing as I drank from the glass, aroma of wheat, lemon citrus, faint bread malt and grassy floral hop fragrances, flavor of toasted malt, hint of dry caramel, quick to go dry on the palate because of the bitterness, has a citrus-sour bite on the tongue, not much malt sweetness at all, less then a medium mouth feel, ok drink, but pretty one dimensional and straight forward, would make a good thirst quencher on a hot Summer day, personally I would drink something else, if you like a real dry citrus-sour biting drink then try it.

Pours bright golden with moderate carbonation and a huge pure white dense foam head that fills 3/4 of the glass. Strong aroma of yeast and dough. The flavor is crisp, malty and mild. The mouthfeel is very mild. The flavor is also a bit rich. The finish is rich and clean and a little bitter. A strong brew for the summer.

Objectively speaking: Timid golden ale with a simplistic wheat touch. No depth.
I like: The concept of a summer brew. Quite drinkable. Light and easy-drinking palate. Fresh wheaty notes.
I dislike: Seriously simplistic stuff. I was indeed going for a light and refreshing drink, but character is present in moderation here. Slacking carbonation.

Good clean slightly sweet beery aroma with hints of yeast. Even with a gentle pour there is a thin creamy head that does not fade. Looks kinda pale yellow without much visible carbonation. Smells surprisingly more hoppy than it is, I know the description says all malt but I swear i smell some kinda hops in there. Taste is much more refreshing than I expected, for some reason I was expecting lots of bitter bite for an ale but tis is almost as smooth as many hefes I’ve had. Good friendly and easy to get along with, rather enjoyable. I think this may be one of the better Anchor beers I’ve had out of about a half dozen. Some banana flavors in the background but not as much as a hefe. Does leave a slight bitterness on the back of the tongue during the finish but it is controlled and gentlemanlike. Good session brew and I’m glad I bought this one.

Bottle. Medium golden pour with a medium size, white frothy head. Aroma of sweet malt and hops. Similar flavor with a little grassiness. Decent carbonation. Light and refreshing; nice summer beer.
