Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Pours a golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is of wheat and sweet malts with a light hint of hops. Taste is much of the same light sweetness from the malt with a big wheat presence and slight hop kick at the end. Could be a decent session beer but I could think of a good number of others I would grab before this.

On tap. Yellow pour with white head. Grainy, wheat, a little sweetness, and some bread and fruit. It’s a little watery, but a decent summer wheat.

Crisp dark cider colored pour with massive foamy white head. Light grainy nose with hints of fresh field grass. Taste similar but with a bitter hop finish marred by a metallic tinge.

Draft. Darker yellow pour with a brite white head. Aromas of toasty malt and tropical fruits. Slightly hoppy with fruit flavors: lemon and pineapple primarily. Clean.

Encountered heavy malt on the nose, as well as a hint of lemongrass, but the "aftersmell," if you will, along with the aftertaste was rather metallic. The brew was fluid on the palate as any summer ale should be, while presenting with wheat, honey, and a touch of licorice. Decent to have if offered, just not that worth it to buy again.

Almost no aroma with this beer. Pours a clear amber with a nice fluffy white head. Flavor is a bit of hops with a touch of wheat. Very light on the palate, with a bit of carbonation fighting with the hop oils. Overall, not a bad beer... seemed a bit tame for the style, not bad for a hut summer night.

Pours a slightly darker, golden color witih a white head. Aroma is of citrus, wheat, grassy tones, and just a little floral hops. Flavor is citrus and slight lemon flavor up front with some toastiness, wheat, and spices. Pretty decent for an american wheat.
