Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

This beer is exactly what it says it is, it is a summer beer meant to be consumed ice cold on a hot day. This is what I would consider a step up from most regular commercial beers on the market today but not as good as what this brewery has produced.

Bottle. Looks like a BMC-lager, smells like one and sure tastes like one as well. This was bad. Shame on you Anchor.

Tight high "empty" head. The Wheat! Dry and a little bit more bitter than average light lagers.

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Golden with a medium white head. Taste had a touch of citrus with notes of mineral water. Light and very crisp. Well carbonated. Nothing really stood out. It was very thirst quenching so maybe better for a hot day or after a workout than something you would have for your regular session beer.

Pale yellow with decent clear white head. Light aroma of wheat and banana. The beer starts sharp with some citrus hops and a clean wheat character. Overall refreshing and enjoyable for its simplicity.

Golden with white creamy head. I had good expectations on this brew but unfortunately they wheren´t fulfilled. It´s quite mediocre. Aroma and flavor brings some fresh malt and hops. But there is no charecter at all.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden body with huge head. Grainy aroma, light citrus - lemon. Taste is crisp, grainy, light lemon - citrus fruits, and a light hop profile. Smooth and very drinkable. I could see this beer a nice choice of a beer on a hot mid-summer day.
