Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

The aroma is yeasty with a sour wheat element. The appearance is golden with a foamy head. The flavor has the wheat malt, bitterness, and some of the sourness from the aroma. The palate is thin. I think this beer would benefit if it were unfiltered.

Looks like a macro. Kind of tastes like one too. Clear bud color with a ever-so-faint skunky aroma and taste. Kind of like damaged rice, but not as bad as the macros.

Found in the discount bin at Spirit Haus in Amherst, MA. Clear yellow color with a big head. Crisp aroma that sort of reminded me of apples. Crisp taste that’s ok. Mostly clean with some tartness on the aftertaste, but otherwise, it’s ok.

Clear golden appearance – medium / thick white head , last kind of long - nose is very , very light skunk , rice , grass , hopps and hay – taste of straw , corn , light wheat and and yeast –sparkly body however, dry body – aftertaste slightly sweet, skunky , and earthy bitter like dirt

Bottled. Sweet, fruity, light herbal aroma. Yellow color, off-white head, good lace. Light malty, light sweet, light herbal, hints of citrus and peach, thin. To me it seemed like a second wash of the grains, like a Belgian Tafelbier. Flavors are ok but it’s all too thin.

Pours hazy golden with a small white head. Light wheat malt scent. The flavor is very thin and light. One dimensional, lacks the spicyness of quality wheat beers. A touch of wheat malt, a little earthy, no bitterness at all. You’d want only a little with a refreshing wheat beer, but this has nothing. Dissappointing, especially from anchor.
