MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Aug 7, 2006 A Mes rate: Not a patch on their other offerings. Cloudy yellow appearance with an initially good head but it dies all too quickly. Reasonably fruity nose with plenty of malt and a little grass. Sweetish flavour with a hint of honey and the usualy citric and floral hoppy notes. Turns bitter for the finish. Just nothing to get excited about. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Aug 6, 2006 Nose typical American wheat of wheat, and a littlecitrus and banana; Slightly hazy gold with a tiny white head; flavor of citrus malts with a little hop bitterness which lasts into the finish. Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Aug 4, 2006 Bottle: Golden coloured body with a medium sized and relatively short lasting head. Aroma of light, floral hops, grass and wheat. The flavour is with citrus and honey. Watered palate. Light bodied. Pleasant slightly bitter finish. It’s an okay brew, but too expensive compared to the quality. sistinas (60), Tempe, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2006 Bottle. Near nonexistent head, lots of small carbonation bubblies, light golden colored. Smells flowery, tastes like... not much at all. A little nutty with a sour aftertaste, I suppose. Easy to drink in the Arizona heat, but I’ve never witnessed a hot summer in San Francisco so Anchor Summer beer is a bit ironic, methinks. sanmiguel (118), Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2006 Bottled. Shared this with my uncle from the Philippines. Pours a light golden body. Refreshing if bland with a lemon twist. Not bad, a good starter beer. DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jul 25, 2006 Pale yellow gold, slightly hazy, huge off-white head. Mellow fruity aromas of sweet citrus and bananas. Same soft flavours on the palate, refreshing with a clean finish. despite what other raters have said about this beer, and despite my past declarations that American wheat beers have very little character compared to their german counterparts, I thought this beer had some excellent wheaty and fruity qualities that have re-awakened my interest in American wheat beer. Perhaps freshness makes a difference, as my wife brought this one direct from San Francisco for me. CarterHayes (32), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 23, 2006 12 oz bottle. Small head which disappeared quickly, though I’ve seen much larger from this beer before. Moderate carbonation, very small bubbles. Smells very wheaty, along with a sweet note, quite pleasant overall. A bit thin in the mouth with quite a bit of lemony bitterness, but this isn’t a flaw. Virtually no lingering aftertaste, which means this could be a decent session brew for some folks. Not a beer I would drink more than two of over the course of a night, but that’s not the end of the world. If you’re in San Francisco in the summer, why not try one? hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jul 21, 2006 bottle. pours straw with a good amount of carbonation. Aroma is wheat and floral hops, taste is light malts, maybe some wheat and a very slightly bitter floral hop finish.
