Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Bottle. Poured clear amber with a large frothy white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Light grassy aroma. Light body with soft carbonation. Light sweet flavor with a lght sweet short finish. Much lighter than my expectation.

the biggest disappointment in recent memory for me. this does not live up to anchor’s rep. how a brewery that makes such a delightfully flavorful barelywine pump out this gassy, pale, light-hay flavored weak watery garbage is beyond me! kansas wheatfield yellow in appearance, huge white fluffy head, with a carbonated dried-grass flavor that fades almost before you notice it...light? yes...refreshing? hardly worth drinking? only if your choice is that or bud light.

A pretty average wheat. Some yeast and bread in the nose and on the tongue. Medium palate and unfortunately a very flat flavor profile. Decent, nothing bad, just not great.

Bottle from Lubière: Poured a yellow/white color beer with a huge pure white bubbly head with good retention. Aroma of bubblegum and banana is just sublime on this hot summer day. Taste is refreshing with a nice crisp presence of wheat and some discreet hops in the background. Very well done for the style and very enjoyable during summer –not sure why the rating are so low for this beer.

Pours a clear golden color with a nice white head. Good carbonation. Has a that yeasty, grass aroma. Has a light spicey, tart flavor. Light body and easy to drink. Worth a try.

OK, so it’s winter here and as I drink this the temperature is probably around zero celcius in the suburbs, but this summer beer was on the shelves at Purvis cellars so here goes. Dark gold with a small but persistent white head. Lemony and sweet aroma without much corriander or other spice. Tastes rather bland lacking true wheat characteristics but has a pleasant light, bitter finish. Probably goes down better when the weather is actually warm.

Draft. Golden amber color with thin head. Thin to medium body with a mild lemon/citrus flavor with a hint of hops. I don’t really go for summer beers or wheat beers, but this is one I would drink on a hot day at the beach or poolside. Had more body and flavor than most summer beers.

Pours a crisp golden color with a thin head. Smells citrussy with some underlying elements that can be best described as lysol. Taste is mildly citrussy with a fair malt backbone. Disappointing sample from these guys.
