Commercial Description:
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Fine, snowy white head and a clear, straw-colored body with substantial carbonation. Aroma of lemon citrus, apples, and sweet wheaty malt. Exceptional tartness with a grainy malt flavor and citrus notes. Mildly sweet with low bitterness. Crisp, medium-light body. Very refreshing. A good summer thirst-quencher.

Yet another slightly dull beer tonight for me. I’m not much of a wheat guy, but I did enjoy the relative fullness of this one, aside from that, would probably pass on this one.

Coriander and duty-free perfume aroma. Not a mean body, but it will do as a svelte wheat beer. Every now and then you don’t like so much body anyways.

hazy golden with rich creamy foam. Weak aroma of banana and leafy hops. Thin flavour of yeast and lemon. Short aftertaste of lemon-peels.

Staw colored brew with a whipped cream head. Very light body, not much flavor. Beats b/m/c in the lawnmower beer department.

I don’t know if it’s Anchor done wrong or lawnmower done right. Weak, thin, but with pleasant hops and malts (maybe that’s the wheat). It’s not unpleasant, it’s just not ultimately what I’ve come to expect from this brewery. Weak aroma and rather pale and clear for my tastes.

Pour is a bright yellow with a big white head. Aroma Is musty and malty. Flavor is a a bit weak and watery but you do get some wheat and hops in there Just nothing to stand out. Its refreshing and that’s about it.

Poured a golden bodied brew with a white head that left some lace. The aromas were a cross between burnt corn nuts and a dead mouse. Flavor was somewhat bitter with a nutty finish. I couldn’t believe such a poor offering from a brewer that produces one of my favorite porters, so I kept trying... but after two bottles, most of my third went down the drain. Disappointing.
