Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

It’s drinkable, but it’s boring. It’s biggest plus is that it is unusually effervescent - a little tingly on the tongue. There are no real off notes. It looks nice. It goes down easy. No funky aftertaste. I suppose, one could say that it is very well crafted, just not to my taste.

Can. Pours a clear golden color with massive white foamy head. Overly carbed and started pouring out when it was opened. Aroma was pretty non-existant. Hints of hay, light citrus. Flavor had straw, light lemon, grass, earthy, bready. Didn’t blend well though, not something I enjoyed. Light body and thin texture. Very overly carbed. Dry to finish.

Another light pour with a fluffy white head. Almost zero aroma aside from a bit of malts. Flavor is incredibly light and the beer has a weird sour aftertaste. It just didn’t turn out well.

Refreshing summer beer. I don't get as much wheat flavor as I would like tastes more like a light pilsner ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours pale gold with a frothy white head. Clumpy lacing. Nose is wheat, honey, caramel, copper. Light mouthfeel. Immediate clove, herbal hops and prominent green apple. A little grainy malt. Finishes dry and a little sour. No other Hefe aspects besides the clove. Definitely a wheat ale, albeit pretty strange.

12oz can from Kroger in Grandview ("Anchor Summer Wheat"). Amber pour with big fluffy white head. . Aroma of light grain and citrus. Tastes are sweet wheat, little earthy. Not a lot going on. Nice creamy medium palate. 6.6

Can as Anchor Summer Wheat. Very sharp and clean straw blonde pour with two fingers of tight white head. Nose is bready with some grassy notes and an earthy malt profile. A light buttery/cooked peach sweetness in the nose and flavor. Bready with notes of wet hay and grass. Light bodied and soft on the finish.

In a clear and glistening golden color was poured into your cup Shaker. Its color is interesting for a wheat beer. White Cream little training and low durability. Form discrete bonds in the glass wall along the tasting. Its aroma is citrus with grassy notes, cereals, some malt, fresh hops, rye bread, corn flakes, some fruit, but is of poor tenacity and not stand out. How is a dedicated beer for the summer its drinkability is remarkable in such a slight body, velvety and gently aerated. Taste is clearly Hoppy bitter and spicy with a small base supported by the malt, and some fruits like cherries, raspberries. The finish is a bittersweet watery and reasonable fermentation touch the aftertaste, but still well watered. Honestly I can not really praise this beer for my evaluation and personal taste becomes common and even dull to warm up a bit more in the cup. Should work just fine one afternoon or warm summer night.
