COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

Bottle - Light amber slightly pale orange color with thin white head. Aroma of malted wheat and citrus, some floral hints. Nice drinkable light flavor - wheat, sweet citrus fruit, honey, hops. Slightly bitter ending. Good beer while doing yard work, etc.

355ml bottle. Its a very pale aley type wheat ale, certainly not a yeast-driven beer.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines, cheers Ash! Pours clear gold, thick foamy white head. Aromas are wheat, cereal, light floral hops. Taste brings a lemon bitter note, lingering wheat sweetness. Light body, thin to creamy texture. Long finish. Not bad.

BB 11/7/2015. Poured a clear golden amber colour with 5mm of white foam that diminished quickly to a collar that laced OK and filmy. Carbonation high and coarse. Aroma subtly malt and grain and a trace of hops. Taste of medium sweet malt followed by citrus/lemon bite followed by a hops bitterness after-taste. Light body. Crisp, dry with a slightly tart/spicy finish. Not like other wheat beers, more lager like. Quite light body-wise and of a very much more subtle taste than the Anchor Steam Beer.

ARH (363) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 12, 2014
12oz bottle poured into a shaker. The aroma is mostly a yeast and scone note with some berries, flour, a light floral note, and some bitter lemons. It pours a clear, oily honey color with a soft, white, whipped-egg head. Plenty of this remains, but it only leaves a light lace. The taste is muted, but a light bitter and a medium light sweet come through. There’s lots of soft carbonation to this, light, oily textured beer. The light body is crisp and dry and finishes with a light berry and lemon flavor with a decent spice quality that gets stronger in the aftertaste. The aftertaste, though, stays light, but does have a lingering mouth coat to it.

Bottle 355ml at home, poured into a small tulip, ABV 4.5% Light orange golden colour on the body, bright and clean, with a tall white hed, nicely thick, with very good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma is lightly hoppy, perfume, clean wheat. Taste of wheat, floral notes in there but also fruits on the finish. Quite good, albeit a bit weak. Good bitterness on the aftertaste though. Medium thin body, good carbonation, slightly dry palate. Overall an okay beer, it would be better if it was a bit more fruity and aromatic. Expected more to be honest.

From 345 ml bottle. Pours a clear straw gold with a lasting white head and lively carbonation. Aromas are very light but some lemon and pepper come through. Taste is fresh citrus with lemon and some lime. Clean finish with a light peppery aftertaste. Drinks more like a lager than a wheat ale. Refreshing but pretty simple.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Clear golden brew with an abundance of white head. Aroma of floral hops, almost perfumy. Taste is mild sweet malt at the start with a lemony citrus twang emerging mid swallow followed by a perfume / floral hops finish. This reminds me of Rinelander with the perfume going on... Well crafted and well balanced but the perfume does not really appeal to me.
