RunDWP (95), San Jose, California, USA Apr 12, 2008 Just didn’t really work for me. Not a very easy dinking beer for the style, which I found to be a problem. Light golden color, big white head. Bitter and slightly wheaty taste, maybe a little lemon in the background. Beer had a certain heaviness, that didn’t lend it self to something to quench your thirst on a hot summer day very well.
BeerEssential (72), Massachusetts, USA Jul 4, 2008 I had this a month or two ago but forgot to rate it, so this is from memory. I’ve come to realize that American wheat beers are not necessarily unfiltered and bottle conditioned like their European cousins. This started out as an almost completely clear golden colour with a nice fluffy head, but the head quickly disappeared, but left some lacing. There wasn’t as much spicy, citrusy aroma as some German versions. Taste was along the lines of a lager. Not my cup of tea (or glass of beer), esp when compared to Belgian or German wheats, but obviously a style all it’s own that appeals to a greater audience. Drinkable, but unmemorable. ilovedarkbeer (683), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a very ugly yellow color with a medium sized soapy white head that quickly turns into a ring around the glass. Nose is sour wheat, cardboard, and corn. Taste is very grain like and somewhat harsh on the palate. A bit of a lemon zest and grass finish. Moderate mouthfeel. scraff (1602), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jul 1, 2008 Sparkling gold, creamy white head. Faint grassy citrus aromas warm to lighter notes of earthed wheat bread. Soft citric wheat flavors finish with a quick drying faint apple note. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. I can greatly appreciate lighter summer style beers, but this was was just bland and weak... WesKBob (116), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy reddish yellow color. Mild wheaty aroma. Flavor is similarly weak, with some breadlike notes and maybe just a hint of spice. Smooth mouthfeel. A decent lawnmower beer, but nothing really special. zebracakes (952), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy gold, white head. Aroma is malty and sugary. Flavor is malty with some hoppiness. This is not really my thing, although it’s not terribly bad for the genre.
You know, ratebeer should have 2 indexes per rating, one for subjective, and the other for genre.
