COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our California Lager is also a single-hop beer, using only fresh, whole Cluster hops, all descended from an old line originally grown in California. Cluster has a long history as a “dual-purpose hop” for both bittering and aroma, which creates a flavor profile like no other. Brewed with San Francisco tap water, fresh from Yosemite, and fermented with our own special strain of lager yeast, our California Lager is kräusened in the traditional manner and lagered in our cellars. The result is a uniquely sessionable lager beer, which is maltier, hoppier, and somewhat stronger than modern American lagers. Its brilliant golden color, lingering effervescence, balanced depth of flavor, distinctive aroma, and smooth finish make this inaugural brew of the Anchor Brewing Zymaster™ Series a delightful tribute to the rich heritage and traditions of California brewing.

A meaty lager. More bitter than expected, with a bready taste. Rough mouthfeel.

Unmistakable cluster tang in the nose, also very yeast, almost banana-like, some rough cereal scents. Flavor is a dead ringer for just about any macro lager. IT has quite a bit more malt coming through and more bitterness, but the flavor itself is quite similar. I don’t know if I can say this is better aside from that it isn’t produced by bmc. I is definitely more cloying. Can’t rate it too high simply because it isn’t an amazing lager and it is aimed at replicating macro brews which I don’t think is the way to go. If I want a clean lager I’m gonna go pils or helles every time.

Rich golden color with thin white head. Very crisp and refreshing, nicely balanced. An excellent lager.

355mL from Total Wine Rancho. Pours a clear, sparkling orange. Larger cream foam. Good retention with soapy lacing. Fresh biscuit and honey roll nose. Taste is quite soapy hoppy, sticky orange, a bit too soapy with lemon. Not a lot of quenching biscuity malt or fresh, zesty hop balance. Disappointing.

From a 12 oz. bottle, pours a beautiful light golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma of sweet malt and light hops with a nice lager yeast character. Light mouthfeel with an appropriate amount of carbonation. Flavor of soft malt and delicate hops lead to a subtle sulphur lager finish. Great summer beer. It's too bad it's only available in Cali. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear bright golden with a medium white head of fairly large bubbles. Aroma is grass and malt. Taste is sweet pale malt, bread, mown grass and a little hop bitterness. Refreshing and good, but nothing out of the ordinary for craft lagers.

Clear Golden pour with big white head and a bit of lingering lacing. Mild dry nose well balanced light malt and faintly sweet with a slightly sticky bitter finish. Its still a lager but well done for a heritage style.

Draft at SFO. Pours a clear, deep golden color with a thin, white head. Nice, malty aroma with hints of grass. Smooth flavor with hints of yeast and malt. Some hops in the dry finish. Very good and refreshing!

I had heard this beer was Budweiser-ish but it’s also a revival of the original recipe of the old Boca Brewing Co. in my area. It definitely has a Bud aroma. Bright white head with a light gold color.Zesty and citrus and a light hop. Kinda grassy aftertaste. I like it! I wanna drink this while disc golfing.
