COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anchor Steam’s® roots go back to the Gold Rush, long before icehouses and modern refrigeration made traditional lagers a viable California option. In 1876, thanks to an ice pond in the mountains and a belief that anything is possible in the Golden State, a little brewery named Boca created California’s first genuine lager. Anchor California Lager® is our re-creation of this historic American beer. Made in San Francisco with two-row California barley, Cluster hops (the premier hop in 19th-century California), and our own lager yeast, this all-malt brew is kräusened and lagered in our cellars. Its golden color, distinctive aroma, creamy head, balanced depth of flavor, and smooth finish make Anchor California Lager® a delicious celebration of California’s unique craft brewing heritage. The California grizzly bear on our Anchor California Lager® label is from a woodcut by Durbin Van Vleck (1833–1898), courtesy of The Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley. First published in 1856 in San Francisco, it is a superbly crafted rendering of an original illustration by Charles Christian Nahl (1818–1878), who had painted both eastbound and westbound versions of this bear. Nearly a century later, Nahl’s bear served as inspiration for the design of the bear on California’s modern state flag. Although that bear is heading west, our bear—like the bear on Boca Brewing’s historic lager label—is heading east.

Really tremendous lager. Brilliant yellow with a thick frothy head. Crisp lager flavors coupled with a thicker than expected mouthfeel. This is going to get some play this summer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is not a pale lager. It’s more of a Bohemian Czech style beer. Haz the golden orange colour and the slight sweetness to the taste. Very nice balance but perhaps a little dull to be a true session beer. Overall, a solid beer and good one to have as the first beer of the evening.

Bottle - Pours golden with orange tint, soapy white head. Aroma of buttered biscuit, pale malt, lemon. Flavors of pale malt, light lemon, hay, buttery biscuit, with a smooth bitter finish.

This is a wonderfully crisp lager. It's how light american lagers should be made. It actually has flavour and it's perfectly brewed for the style. Great summer beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can, pours golden orange with faint haze, off white head. Bready aroma, some corn. Crisp bite, light flavor drier finish. Decent body and some creaminess. Malt is a minor player.

355ml/5 Euro beim TAKE ROOT FESTIVAL 2016.

Light malty nose, a touch of lemon, some ripe fruit as it breathes. Medium-light body, a bit maltier than most light lagers made by U.S. craft brewers and North Sea European breweries. Moderate hoppiness, no real noble hop flavor, bitter finish with no harshness. No flaws, but nothing that really grabs me.

Can, from the Cali mix pack. Golden copper color with a modest eggshell head, aroma of sweet lager malt and grass. A bit herbal too. Tastes sweet, bready and lightly floral. Crisp enough too. Not bad.

Escaso aroma, muy similar al sabor. Color típico de rubia con pequeña corona de espuma blanca. Carbonatación media tirando a baja. Sabor similar al de la Liberty Ale pero con menor personalidad. Si la hubiera probado sin saber que es Anchor... jamás lo hubiera dicho. No es mala pero es algo plana, sin mucho matiz. Disfrutable y refrescante, pero pido más.
