Our California Lager is also a single-hop beer, using only fresh, whole Cluster hops, all descended from an old line originally grown in California. Cluster has a long history as a “dual-purpose hop” for both bittering and aroma, which creates a flavor profile like no other. Brewed with San Francisco tap water, fresh from Yosemite, and fermented with our own special strain of lager yeast, our California Lager is kräusened in the traditional manner and lagered in our cellars. The result is a uniquely sessionable lager beer, which is maltier, hoppier, and somewhat stronger than modern American lagers. Its brilliant golden color, lingering effervescence, balanced depth of flavor, distinctive aroma, and smooth finish make this inaugural brew of the Anchor Brewing Zymaster™ Series a delightful tribute to the rich heritage and traditions of California brewing.

Slightly skunky aroma. Clean on the palate but with some astringency. Flavor is very mild to non-existent. This beer is okay, but not great.

Bottle. Clear golden-hued orange body with a small white head. Nose is citrus, grass, blood orange, red berries and hints of straw and honey in the back. Taste is citric peel, grass, wet leaves, straw, pale malts and hints of herbs and almonds. Light body, medium carbonation. Pretty nice and drinkable lager; easy-going but with enough complexity to make it interesting.

Bottle, bought @Fakta, Middelfart. Pours clear golden with a small, staying creamy white head. Aroma has malts, grass, citrus, light grapefruit. Medium carbonation, fine dry and fairly light mouthfeel. Flavour has soft malts, chalky and grassy bitterness. Lingering dry bitterness.

Clear golden, frothy offwhite head. Clear, malty aroma with suptle hoppy notes. Flavour is similar, light, with more pronounced hops. Sweetish with biscuit notes. Rather smooth, light bitter finish.

Dobry lager albo nawet niezły pils. Aromat właśnie czeskiego klasycznego pilsa. Barwa złota, klarowne. Piana średnio pęcherzykowa, wysoka. Duże wysycenie, pilsowo gorzkie, dobre. Goryczka średnia.

Pours a light golden and clear. Has a really big head. Would be great in the summer but for some reason I am drinking in december.

Pours a mostly clear gold with some floating sediment present. A fair, rocky off-white head is produced, leaving a nice foamy lace as it descends. Nose involves soft dough, light metallic notes, some dustiness and noble hop spice, and light lemony citrus. Barely sweet, fairly bitter. Medium bodied, pretty active and sprite, with a dusty malty finish. Reminds me a lot a of Old Style, and I think I’m rating it about the same. Not a great value for what you get ($13 6-pack in my area), though I do like the cause. Still, a bit underwhelming.

Bottle. Pours a light golden color with a small head and bits of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and grass. Taste of light malt sweetness, so me caramel and grain. Fairly mild bitterness and a clean finish. Fairly light body, smooth with just a touch of crispness. Not a fancy beer but still enjoyable.

Translucent golden orange. Quickly dissipating head. Few bubbles. Splendid malt, caramel, cotton candy and bubblegum aroma. Slightly thicker than an average lager, but still quite refreshing. Notes of cereal, grass, malt, caramel, citrus and a comfortably mild hop. A complex and rewarding lager.
