COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale (7.2% ABV) is a Belgian-style farmhouse ale with a California twist. The unique bitterness and earthy spiciness of Yerba Santa, a native California herb, perfectly complement the fruitiness and clove-like flavors created by a local saison-style yeast. And in addition to hops, barley malt, and wheat malt, we used toasted Belgian wheat malt, which gives our Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale its distinctive maltiness and burnished bronze color.

Zymaster Series No. 4: Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale will be available in draught and 22-ounce bottles and will be poured in select bars and restaurants throughout the United States, as well as the Anchor Taproom, starting June 2013.

Pine Box, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast and fruitiness. Taste is actually somewhat bitter. It is also pretty sweet, but not really excessively so. Generally good balance. Not really dry or funky like a saison should be. In any case, it was a perfectly good Belgian inspired American ale.

Draft. Pours golden orange with a white head. Yeasty and fruity, light herbal notes, hints of peach, and a nice quick yeasty finish. Very drinkable.

Pours clear deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast, wheat, banana and hint of alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a slightly warm and banana fruity finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 22oz. A small, off-white head sits on top of a clear, golden body. Rather German aroma, with some spiced notes. Full body, pleasant carbonation. The flavor too is a bit low on maltyness, with green apples, some fruityness, cloves and a touch of banana. Certainly a boring one, but drinkable. 130803

Draft. Clear amber pour, with a white head. Grain, bread, light fruit, some yeast, and maybe a hint of spice. Not really a saison in my opinion. Itís not rustic, and itís too sweet. Not for me.

22 ounce bottle purchased at BevMo in Natomas. The aroma on this has a lot of banana and coriander present. Not really much funk or horseblanket esters, as I would expect. Light metallic undertones, too. Not a classic saison aroma, but I actually think this is decently quaffable. Transparent copper body with a medium, decently strong, off-yellow head with fair lacing. Starts initially with yeast esters including some banana and clove. Light dustiness present. Becomes a little metallic in the middle ("steam flavor"). Becomes rather herbal, pretty bitter, and quite hoppy to finish. Nice balance, and a unique take on the style. Definitely prefer this to your typical saison.

22oz bottle. Deep bronze color. Beautiful pour, with taste white foam. Why does Anchorís have so much flavor & character?? Aroma is very herbal, sweet toasted malts, and the obvious fresh-baked bread. Flavor had fruity esters, sweet malts, toasted barley character. Finishes with a little bitterness, herbal bite. Saison breadiness is definitely there . Sticky texture. Hardy bodied. Very gassy, light fizz, gentle carbonation. Pretty strong for a "Farmhouse" Ale, just right for a Saison. Shouldíve poured this into a Duval glass. Overall, Iím not a fan of Saison/ Farmhouse Ales, but this one is absolutely fantastic. $7.49 @ HopCity. (3775).

Tap @ In de Wildeman. Clear copper colour, white head. Nose is sweet malted, bubblegum, light fruity. Flavour is light malty, light sweetness, bit sugary. Slightly sweet finish.

Bottle. Poured a hazy orange-brown color with a very large white head. Aroma was malty notes, caramel and a touch of yeast notes. Flavor was heavy caramel malts, spices, very weak yeast notes. Too malty and not enough yeast character - reminds me more of a malty British brown ale.
