Our Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale (7.2% ABV) is a Belgian-style farmhouse ale with a California twist. The unique bitterness and earthy spiciness of Yerba Santa, a native California herb, perfectly complement the fruitiness and clove-like flavors created by a local saison-style yeast. And in addition to hops, barley malt, and wheat malt, we used toasted Belgian wheat malt, which gives our Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale its distinctive maltiness and burnished bronze color.

Zymaster Series No. 4: Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale will be available in draught and 22-ounce bottles and will be poured in select bars and restaurants throughout the United States, as well as the Anchor Taproom, starting June 2013.

[10/11/13] Draught at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Clear amber color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of fruity esters – banana and a bit of apples and a faint spicy note. Sweetish fruity flavor with yeast and a slightly spicy finish with light bitter notes. Nothing great but quite pleasant.

Pours a medium gold with a foamy white head. It has a nice floral aroma wit some biscuit and clove, and a flavor that has some spiciness along with a malty backbone and a spicy, mostly dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear copper with a thin foamy head. Nose is very interesting and fun to smell, with earthy toffee and light dark-tea notes and a small bitterness that brings a little farmhouse spice. Flavor is balanced though malty, with gorgeous farmhouse grainy notes and slight black tea earthiness and a wee bit of toffee. Subtle grassy funkiness adds the balance, leading to a bitter aftertaste.

On tap @ Sugar Maple, Milwaukee. Light amber-gold, medium white head. Sweet and bready, marzipan comes to mind which is odd for a supposed Saison. Spicy and earthy, but missing the lighter body and dry finish I expect in a Saison. Not bad, but just not really what I had in mind.

Bottle thanks to Boisebeerguy. Pours out a hazy straw topped with a medium white head. Aroma is fruit, citrus, some gfresh grass, and a hop note. Taste is as the aroma with a nice fruit sweetness, good hop with some pine and citrus. It is nice to see a few new things from Anchor

Looks nice. A light fruit aroma. This is very fruity on the second sip. First sip is light and bubbly. A surprisingly dry finish but fruity throughout. Strange. Okay.

Bottle:   Amber, thin foamy white head, little lacing, light carbonation.   Somewhat of a sweet sweaty aroma, slightly rustic, a bit barnish, but not as floral as other saisons.   Soft breadiness on the tongue, light sweetness, touch of caramel and biscuit.   Seems more of a rustic amber than a Saison.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes mealy, bready, and nothing like I expected for a Saison.   Not bright and floral like others.   Not bad, but not what I expected at all.
