3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle. Oddball sort of a beer here. Big clumpy off-white head that last forever gives this one a five star appearance. The nose is fruity. The taste is very malt forward with a robust malt profile accented by un-sweet fruits and finishes with minerals and old world spicy hops. The palate was a bit oily. In summary a nice little quaff that is a good alternative to the Dupont standard.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz bottle served in a snifter.
Excellent looking: copper body woth a large, durable head that leaves a fine partial coat on the glass.
The aroma says "farmhouse ale" but without leather or barnyard; its floral and fruity rather than funky.
The flavor largely follows but has a surprisingly pronounced and complex maltiness. Good balance and complexity.
Feel: medium-light body with medium-high but soft carbonation.
O: worth seeking out.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Backlog rating. Keg at the Rake, London. It pours a clean amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is fruity and estery, lightly funky with notes of citrus, red berries, hay and grass. Taste is yeaty, malty, grassy, with notes of banana, bread dough, banana, grapefruit peel, citrus juice. Finishes lightly yeasty and dry. Medium bodied wit lively carbonation. Overall, quite tasty

Poured from bomber a nice coppery hue with a thin off white head of foam that quickly dissipated. Aroma of Belgium yeast, malts, spices and grass. Flavour of pepper, coriander, caramel malts and apples. Overall decent saison beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice saison style from Anchor, a little tart with dry finish. Fruity, spicy nose, hazy orange golden body, minimal head, minimal lacing. Lighter body, slick mouth feel, taste split between spicy and bitter, coriander, pepper. taste lingers long after finish.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Another oversized Anchor bottle, this one 22 oz. Nose is strongly spicy and floral, thick rustic malt with light wheat and lemon, a little roast/toast under the phenols, intriguing and attractive. Pours dark, hazy pink-orange with a huge rocky beige head. Light body with wheat (but no slime), lots of spice, as if from added adjuncts on top of potent Saison yeast. Malt ends up thin and relatively undistinguished other than a mild sliver of toast; clove phenols remains but the fruit is meager and somewhat artificial, and the esters have disappeared entirely. Distinctive herbal quality gains steam and comes out in front just before the finish line, matches and passes the lightly astringent herbal bitterness that makes itself known in the long aftertaste. Disappointing compared to the last I had from the series, and, though not bad, not something I’m itching to revisit.

Bottle @ Greg’s palace. Pours a bit hazy dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Some citrus and herbal notes in the nose along with some biscuit and bread. More biscuit and dough in the flavor. Some white pepper. Eh.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Super hazy, very nicely tinted orange coloured body with a deep bronze and copper glow - all with two centimetres of a tan head atop the beer - nice looking for sure! Aroma of bananas, yeast, coriander seed, curacao, bubble gum, alcohol, caramel and more oranges - smells more like a german wheat or a tripel than anything else. Medium-bodied; Assertive alcohol and bitterness from the malt at first with a light citrus flavour, some subdued herbal and grassy notes, but a lot of yeast qualities throughout. Aftertaste shows a hint of light hops, some caramel and full oranges and a little metallic quality at the end. Overall, a nicely refreshing beer with a lot of flavour and some subdued sweetness, but this is a beer of mixed identities - it shows and tastes more of a german wheat or a tripel than it does of any saison or biere de garde - not a bad beer, but don’t expect a pure saison from this one. I sampled this anchor-only-stubby 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 24-October-2013 for US$6,99 sampled at home in Washington on 06-September-2014.
