Bottle sample at SBWF. Aroma and taste is full of ammoniac. Way too rough for my taste.

Sample @ SBWF. The usual Anchorage stuff going on here... Dry and hoppy with notes of lime and berry seeds.

Bottle:   Straw, cloudy, orange hued, thin frothy white head, little lacing.   Slight funk, barnish, a little sweet citrus.   Similar on the tongue, a bit chardonay like.   Bright, funky, with a bit of a citrusy punch.   Little bit of grapefruit peel on the backside.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   I liked this one a bit more than the Jolly Pumpkin brewed example.   A little more refined.   Zesty finish, white wine, grapefruit peel, orange zest, with some funky barnish notes.   Fairly nice.

Hazed, dull straw pour. medium white head, good retention. Aroma of funky grapefruit, bit of barnyard / earth. Taste is fairly tart, mostly grapefruit with some woodiness.

Bottle: Poured a dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of grapefruit notes with light rustic cereal notes is quiet nice. Taste is dominated by more grapefruit notes then I was expecting with some rustic cereal notes and light herbal notes. Peppercorn were not that identifiable. Body was full with good carbonation. Super enjoyable saison with nice refreshing notes of grapefruit.

Where: The Partisan, Washington DC. How: 20 ounce draft pour. Appearance: very pale hay color with a nice white head and tons of lacing; hazy. Aroma: pithy from the grapefruit, Brett barnyard funk, citrus, lemon, oranges, tropical, kinda dirty. Taste: highly carbonated, grapefruit, Brett funk, citrus, spicy middle of the mouth, bitter and tannic finish. Palate: Mouth feel is medium, carbonation is also medium. Crisp and refreshing. Overall: An excellent funky saison that will bring a smile to your face.

It’s been WAY to long since I had the other version to compare head to head, but they will end up with the same score whatever that’s worth. Still funky grapefruit forward, a little gassy but not overly so, peppery dry funky fruity finish. Quality brew.

Barnyard, persimmon, starfruit, white grape nose. Hazy yellow, thick head. Surprisingly not very tart. Lemon zest, funk, neutral with a grassy bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Pours a murky yellow-golden with a sticky white head. Sour nose. Sour tart candy, passion fruit and grapefruit aromas. Medium to full expression on the palate. The sourness is more subdued in the flavor than on the nose. Sour tart candy. Grapefruit bitterness.
