Tap at The Mikkeller Bar. Poured a dark mahogany colour with and orange hue. The aroma is rich fruity and alcoholic. The flavour is rich bitter and with an oily texture. There is lots of alcohol based liqourice but it doesn’t dominate. A truly awesome beer, but I’d prefer a lower ABV so I could drink more of it!

pour @ THE festival, maine. hazy dark brown with a minimal beige head, some retention. tons of caramel, some burnt, booze, dark fruitiness, woody, leather, grassy-spicy but mostly piney make their way through this cloying muddy and syrupy liquid. light carbonation, full body, cloying and boozy finish. more than ok for what it is..

Draught at CBC 2013. Clear copper/mahogny, light to medium beige head. Sugary, nutty, caramelly malt aroma, some herbal hops, alcohol extremely well hidden. Full bodied, medium carbonation. Sweet, medium bitterness.

Bottle at ChurchKey. Thanks everyone! Poured a slightly cloudy brown color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma was lots of candy caramel and toffee character, congnac. Flavor is similar, very smooth - almost no alcohol burn, very impressed by this sipper - far too easy to consume though as I found myself returning to this one at least one more time without thinking about the abv implications.

Rating #2500! Keg @ CBC. The pour’s deep amber with a tiny head. The nose is red apples, toffee. Rich cotton candy. Some heath bar candy. A bit of toasted nut and wood, general spices. Expressive aromas. The taste is deliciously supple and rich. Lovely thick toffee and caramel. More caramel-dipped red apples. Only mildly boozy. Nice spicy hop accents. Chestnuts. Full body, soft. Never overpowering. You’d never guess this was 17%. Overall, a fantastic beer. For me, it was the beer of the festival. I’m glad to have tried it.

You have to make a deal with the devil to get an Alaska tick. Nice thick barley wine that taste decent consider the huge percentage and potential for being a boozy mess. A little too syrupy for me though. Lots of malt here, some citrus. Plenty of booze. Bottle shared by Travlr or someone at Churchkey.

Tap @ CBC2013. Slight hazy amber color, just some lacing. Cognac and raisin in the aroma, toffee, caramel. Quite sirupy. Caramel malt. Big sipper, I like.

75cl, Batch 1, new exclusive American brew Anno 2013, thx alot to Secret Santa!, very complex brew, alcoholic/fruity and slightly woody/sweet, yet not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, yet very expensive!, WOW!

This poured a medium brown with basically no head. Aroma was lots of dark fruit, caramel, and light booze. Flavor was sweeter than I would like but manageable, lots of dark fruits, pruney, alcohol, not very complex though.

Sample @ The Festival. Pours a clear dark amber body with zero head. The nose is super malty and rich with tons of dark fruits and raisons. Some wood and booziness, but it doesn’t kill the malt. The flavor is thick and rich with a heavy caramel and dark fruit maltiness. It’s like liquid raisons. The barrel and alcohol are certainly there, but it’s surprisingly second fiddle to the malt. Not sure I would have guessed cognac in particular though. Thick and chewy body with minimal carbonation and a bit of alcohol heat on the finish. This was pretty darn drinkable for such a huge ABV, even on a fairly hot afternoon.
