Pours dark reddish with a tiny head. Aroma of tart notes, hints of wood, oak and malts. Taste is smooth, malty and wooden with hints of syrup, oak, cognac and vanilla. Finish is malty and warming with loads of wooden oak notes, hints of tartness. Nice, quite balanced and tasty barley wine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This poured a medium brown with basically no head. Aroma was lots of dark fruit, caramel, and light booze. Flavor was sweeter than I would like but manageable, lots of dark fruits, pruney, alcohol, not very complex though.

(750ml bottle) cloudy deep copper, no real head. Nose is sweet caramel, toasty malt, brown sugar, spirit barrel, cognac. Taste of brown sugar, sweet, cognac, some alcohol but not indicative of 17%+, medium body, sweet linger.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Mikkeller Bar, San Fran. Ruby color with some soft Carbonation, no head. Aroma is layers of thick dark fruits with a strong note of cognac underneath. Holy hell the mouthfeel is sticky sweet with the cognac being a lingering element. Very low alcohol in the flavor, extremely smooth and only a light warming sensation after the sip. Warming alcohol on the tongue after the sip is gone. Really like drinking a nicely aged brandy. Would cellar very well

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample @ The Festival. Pours a clear dark amber body with zero head. The nose is super malty and rich with tons of dark fruits and raisons. Some wood and booziness, but it doesn’t kill the malt. The flavor is thick and rich with a heavy caramel and dark fruit maltiness. It’s like liquid raisons. The barrel and alcohol are certainly there, but it’s surprisingly second fiddle to the malt. Not sure I would have guessed cognac in particular though. Thick and chewy body with minimal carbonation and a bit of alcohol heat on the finish. This was pretty darn drinkable for such a huge ABV, even on a fairly hot afternoon.

75cl, Batch 1, new exclusive American brew Anno 2013, thx alot to Secret Santa!, very complex brew, alcoholic/fruity and slightly woody/sweet, yet not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, yet very expensive!, WOW!
