3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at my 10K, thanks to Theydon Bro. It pours pretty much black with a decent tan head. The nose is rich, sweet-sour, oily, funky, dark chocolate, vanilla, toasted coconut, mild whisky and jammy blackcurrant. The taste is bitter-sour, earthy, funky, some acidity, charred wood, cocoa, granny smith apple, charred wood, leather and some alcohol heat towards the finish with a dry, woody finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Interesting, but I am never quite sure about the balance of dark roasty sours. Not bad anyways.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cherries, red wine, light chocolate, hints of roast, and vinegar. It?s a dark brown with some orange highlights and beige head that fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with light-moderate cherry, light chocolate, cola, and just a hint of roast. The finish light lemon, light red wine, and a hint of vinegar. It?s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, I?m generally not a big fan of dark sours because I don?t think sour and roasty work well together, but this is very light on roastiness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL bottle from DeLock’s in Munster. Pours a murky and opaque chestnut brownish-black, espresso colored head with okay retention. Nose is funky, fruity, some sour cherries, raisins, dark roast, minerals, wood, touch of diacetyl. Mouth is medium-full, dry, tart up front, then bitter and a bunch of fruit and roasted things (barley, coffee, chicory), wine barrel becomes evident on the back end, whiskey barrel at the very finish. The bitterness kind of detracts though as it undercuts everything and lingers. Wondering if cellaring this for a year would mellow that out. Still another solid brew from the Land of the Midnight Sun.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Location: 750 ml bottle from Winooski Beverage, 9/26/15
Aroma: The aroma is dark berries (black, blue, black cherry), oak, and red wine, plus a little plum
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a thin ring of light brown head and mild lacing
Flavor: The flavor is sour fruity, and yeah, pretty much exactly like the aroma would suggest
Palate: Medium-plus bodied, more of a sipper, drinks nicely from cellar temp through room temp
Another excellent one from Anchorage. There’s a ton of complexity here, most of which seems to come from the barrels and the brett. I’m sure the underlying beer was solid too, but those are definitely the dominate flavors here.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
