Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malts, rye, vanilla, wood. Thin mouth, strong rye, nice roast, dark fruit, very sweet, boozy finish, very nice.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with bubbly ring of tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and whiskey with a hint of funky acidity underneath. Taste follows, an interesting blend of the barrel aged stout and the sour. More mild on the sour than something like tart of darkness, and more less whiskey barrel than its later cousin. Really nice.

Bottle @ Home. Batch 1 marts/2013 Pours black with a fast fading light brown head, lively bubbles, lacings. Aroma of roasted malt, yeast, light brett, caramel, oak, wine barrels, dark fruits, rye, sweet licorice. Flavor is sweet, malty, brett, oak, wine barrels, red wine grapes, caramel, dark fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, light whiskey notes, some alcohol. 750ml bottle. Black with short brown head. Smooth and silky wine-forward aroma. Taste is just exceptionally smooth and fruity. The drinkability of this one is phenomenal. If I have one minor criticism is that the rye whiskey barrel isnít as prominent. Fantastic stuff.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Black beer with some brown bubbles that turn into a thin brown lacing and than disappears. Aroma is a beautiful mix of whiskey, vinous notes, yeast, minerals, liquorice, roast, light soy and light brett with fruit tints. Flavour is a beautiful mix vinous notes, brett, roast, wood, some liquorice, light whiskey, good bitter, light dry, light chocolate, light spice abd fudgy tints. Delicious stuff! Aftertaste is bitter, whiskey, roast, light toffee and liquorice and some vinous note with a yeasty sprinke. Low carbo, light watery mouthfeel, full bodied. Delicious beer!

Finally decided to open this. Thanks Tim! Bottle, skiff of bubbly foam left a ring behind. Aroma bourbon, molasses, cookies, dried cherries, chocolate, dust. Taste is molasses, cookies, vanilla, cherries, brown sugar, anise, oak. Palate is very thick and rich, little carbonation left at this point. Finish is anise, molasses and roasted barley. This is a bit sweeter than I like, I actually wish it were more sour, my memory of the second batch is not much different. Still drinking this and re-rating. The sourness is like citric acid in sweet candy. Itís subtle, but without it the candy would just be sweet. This is like a hint of cherry lifesavers, under all that roasty molasses vanilla and licorice. Again, I might wish it were dryer or more sour, but the effect is mesmerizing. I really could just keep sipping this, and itís well past midnight.

[2/19/15] Bottle at Beachwood BBQ in Long Beach. Batch 1, 3/13. Black with a nice tan head. Lovely aroma of chocolate, lots of red wine, whiskey, vanilla, oak and sourish dark fruits. Sweet and slightly sourish flavor with lots of dark chocolate, oak, wine fruitiness, whiskey, vanilla and a slight alcohol spiciness in the finish. Full-bodied. Great stuff, very complex.

Very dark color with dark khaki head. Smells of barrel, cinnamon, molasses, vanilla, sweet coffee. Taste is thick molasses and chocolate syrup flavors, oak, roasted hop, espresso. Reminds me of bourbon county in the taste. Lot of sweet chocolate goodness in it as well as barrel. Coats the glass. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
