UPDATED: MAY 9, 2014 Bottle. For some reason I really expected this one to be tart, but in the end, I was happy. Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown head that dissipates fairly quickly but leaves good lacing. Aroma is roasty malt, cocoa, oak, vanilla, red wine, just a touch of Brett funk. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, light bitter, very oaky and vinous, a bit of anise in there. Very very light whiff of Brett - barely noticeable and certainly not on par with the characterisic Bretty flavor of Anchorage beers. Full body, creamy, perhaps a bit chalky when cold. A bit hot from the 13% ABV, and just a touch of rye spiciness lingering to the finish. This is good shit.

Bottle @ Theis. Pours near black with no head. Aroma is oak, cocoa, dark chocolate, wine, brett, dark fruit, roasted malt, licorice, rye and red wine. Taste is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is full, texture is smooth, carbonation is soft. Finishes sweet with oak. Very good stuff.

(Bottle) Pours black with a small head. The aroma is super complex with subtle notes from both barrels, light funk, chocolate, roast, liquorice, mint, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits and so much more. The flavour is light to medium sweet, near medium bitter and light acidic with notes roast, liquorice, dark sugars, dark fruit, light funk, nice bittering hops. The mouthfeel is round, fat, oily and light tart with light to medium carbonation. Fiery finish. Near full bodied.

Bottle bought through Brill & Co. Pours pitch black with a rather small bubbly dark mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace while dissipating. Smell is malty and complex to say the least with roasted malts, caramel, purple wine gums, hay, charred wood, vanilla fudge, liquorice fudge, moist soil, hay, port wine, bourbon, raisins, dates, dark chocolate, tingling alcohol, chocolate cake, dates, Christmas fruitcake, brandy, bourbon, rum, hints of leather and subtle hints of barnyard. Taste is tiny sweet, slightly bitter, tiny sour, slightly salty and malty with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, charred wood, burnt caramel, hay, salty liquorice candy, toasted coconut, vanilla fudge, chocolate sauce covered banana, dark grapes, dates, moist hay, warming alcohol, leather, biscuits, steak with Madeira sauce, chocolate cake, caramelized almonds, port wine, raisins and hints of butterscotch hard candy, Mouthfeel is round, oily, slightly roasted astringent, tiny tart and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter, tiny salty and malty with roasted malts, vanilla fudge, charred wood, toasted coconut, roasted hazelnuts, liquorice fudge, vanilla fudge, burnt caramel, toffee, dark grapes, toffee, leather, biscuits, hay and hints of butterscotch hard candy. The complexity of this beer is staggering. Wow! Just wow!

Fantastiskt god.

Pour is black with a thin tan head. Aroma is sour - brett, dark roast, rye bread, musk. Flavor is sour up front but transitions into roast, coffee, brown sugar, and molasses. Alcohol is masked extremely well.

Danish tasting session, corked
Black color with small head, oily pour. Light tar aroma, very light vinous touch. Good body strength, sweet malt flavor with some chocolate, light liquorice, impression of chili peppers, correct bitterness, light acidity.
Very good.
