3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Funky, sweaty smell, mixed with alcohol, almog like a citrus or lime smell to it, dark stout appearance but after that this being called a stout ends. The taste, I can’t even explain it, nowhere near a stout in my opinion and nowhere near a belgian.
Very strange complex beer.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with bubbly ring of tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and whiskey with a hint of funky acidity underneath. Taste follows, an interesting blend of the barrel aged stout and the sour. More mild on the sour than something like tart of darkness, and more less whiskey barrel than its later cousin. Really nice.

750ml bottle. Black with short brown head. Smooth and silky wine-forward aroma. Taste is just exceptionally smooth and fruity. The drinkability of this one is phenomenal. If I have one minor criticism is that the rye whiskey barrel isn’t as prominent. Fantastic stuff.

Finally decided to open this. Thanks Tim! Bottle, skiff of bubbly foam left a ring behind. Aroma bourbon, molasses, cookies, dried cherries, chocolate, dust. Taste is molasses, cookies, vanilla, cherries, brown sugar, anise, oak. Palate is very thick and rich, little carbonation left at this point. Finish is anise, molasses and roasted barley. This is a bit sweeter than I like,
I actually wish it were more sour, my memory of the second batch is not much different. Still drinking this and re-rating. The sourness is like citric acid in sweet candy. It’s subtle, but without it the candy would just be sweet. This is like a hint of cherry lifesavers, under all that roasty molasses vanilla and licorice. Again, I might wish it were dryer or more sour, but the effect is mesmerizing. I really could just keep sipping this, and it’s well past midnight.

Very dark color with dark khaki head. Smells of barrel, cinnamon, molasses, vanilla, sweet coffee. Taste is thick molasses and chocolate syrup flavors, oak, roasted hop, espresso. Reminds me of bourbon county in the taste. Lot of sweet chocolate goodness in it as well as barrel. Coats the glass.
