UPDATED: NOV 11, 2012 Pours a cloudy straw with a puffy white head. Aroma is citrus, apple, wheat, and some other light fruity notes. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Flavours up front is yeast and wheat and that fades into a citrusy blend with coriander and spice and finishes with a spicy, herbal bitterness. The problem I have with these "white ipaís" is theyíre usually more "White" than IPA, so I donít think they fit in the IPA category. And theyíre becoming more and more popular. That being said, this beer is very well done.

750 mL bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color with a large foamy white head. Gusher. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of mild funk, lots of fruits including melon, apple, lemon, strawberry and soft wheat notes. The taste is wheat, lemongrass, apple and a soft lingering coriander note. Herbal hops as well. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow with a huge carbonated white head. Aroma is big bold hops, coriander and light funk. Taste is a blast to the palate with strong hops but mellowed with coriander and citrus. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Soured, funky aroma with some floral notes. Super fluffy head pale straw color. Odd weird beer. Dandelions. Cheese.

750ml bottle - pours hazy pale yellow with foamaliciously white head. Nose is yeasty and straw. Flavor adds citrus and spice. Sweet and somewhat hoppy. Reminds me of a saison. Burpy. Idk.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with large, white foamy head. Aroma is spicy similar to a belgian, light fruity tangerine undertone. Very dry, come chalkiness. Drying hoppy finish,

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2014 Bottle from Last Drop.

Could this be the best bottled IPA Iíve ever had? Stiff competition from Sculpin, Pliny, and (in a very different way) Two Hearted, but this is certainly the most interesting among the IPA standouts, and quite plausibly the best. None of those quite pull a 4.5 in the bottle, so I think this one takes it. Only competitor at 4.5 is another IPA -- or rather IIPA also from Alaska with Brett: 3767 from Midnight Sun.

Pear juice pour with a full white head. Aroma is a ten if Iíve ever experienced it. Huge grapefruit juice --- the sort that comes in a 5.5oz foil-topped can -- and plenty of weed with threads of brett and oak wafting through. Now that I know itís got kumquats I can tell theyíre there contributing to the delicious juicy citrus, but I wouldnít have called it without reading the label. Pepper is prominent in the flavor, as is that kumquot/white grapefruit. Brett is subtle but adds substance to the long end of the flavor. Amazing what they can do with 50 IBUs; the beer has tons of flavor and more than enough bittering.

At 12 bucks I thought this was expensive until I tasted it; now I think itís great value for what Anchorage provides and Iíll be hoping to get my hands on additional bottles.

Addendum: after a couple of additional encounters with this beer, I have to acknowledge that galaxy hops are not my favorite. Everything else about the beer is marvelous, and I may have initially been taken by the grapefruit pith that the hops provide, but upon revisits I have not been able to get around the onion aspects of the hops in this one. As a result, Iíd probably drop my rating of the beer to something around 4.0-4.1 --- but instead of doing that now, Iíll wait for the opportunity to do a proper re-rate in real time instead of a retrospective downgrade.

Got a wide range of reactions from the people I shared this with. Hazy yellow pour, frothy white head. The aroma was big time funky. Cheese and yeast with hints of citrus, cereal, leather, pepper, and spice. Medium and chewy. Big sour "brett" funkiness with a long bitter, hoppy finish. Great balance. One of the most unique beers Iíve tasted. Fantastic.

75 cl bottle @ home, no BBE info
Aroma has soapy citrus, some hops and urinal cake. Palate is rather high on CO2. Flavour is strong on earthy notes. Also lemon, grassy hops and some leathery notes. Nice hop bite occurs. A well hopped farmhouse saison but not IPA in any way.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 750ml bottle from Ales Unlimited, San Francisco, CA

Batch #1, Jan/2012 - Pours yellow with a bubbly head. Aroma of bretta, spices, yeast, malts and fruity hops. Taste of tart fruits, strong bretta notes, yeast, farmhouse notes and malts. Finish is bitter and hoppy with some tartness, yeasty farmhouse notes, fruits and grass. Okay, quite funky for an IPA, more like a saison/wild ale. 8-4-8-3-15 = 3.8

Re-rated on 5.5.2013. Tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Fresh and hoppy with loads of exotic fruits and a touch of bretta and wood. Bretta is quite subtle on this one. Excellent stuff, much better fresh.
