750mL Bottle (April 2012 batch). Easily the most peculiar beer Iíve ever had beginning with the cork almost flying out after I took the caging off (and yeah, Iíve done this more times than I can count without that happening!). Pours a hazy, pale straw yellow with this monstrous head (it kept growing and growing like something out of a Dr. Seuss book). Nose is crazy too -- lilies, lemon peel, some basement dankness, yeasty Brett funk, chardonnay, coriander, and something else that comes across like burnt rubber. Most effervescent non-Champagne beverage Iíve seen. Mouth is dry with floral and oakiness up front, then some of that Galaxy hopiness, followed by some herbal notes and some black pepper, then some bread and a dry mild - yet lingering - bitter finish. Maybe itís the 6 months of daylight or darkness that does it to them but those Alaskans do some pretty crazy brewing up there.

Bottle @ Home. Batch #2 / april 2012. Opened and shared with Jacob to celebrate my 48th birthday. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma of flenty of fruity hops, lemon peel, grapefruity, yeast, brett, white wine and a little oak. Flavor is dry and rather bitter with rich fruity hops, melon, orange- and lemonpeel, citrus, lightly spicy, brett and wit yeasts, white wine, little oak. Medium body, overcarbonated at first wich flattens abit after a while in the glass, Dry lightly bitter finish. Very nice and easy drinking beer. 030113

75cl corked and caged bottle courtesy of pellegjr - thanks Joey! Pours a light yellowy/gold with wispy white head that sticks around; plenty of lacing. Aroma is incredibly interesting: instant hit of Brett - lovely and funky - plenty of citrus fruit , spices, and dry white wine too. Taste is very well balanced between the funky, dusty, lactic Brett notes and the bitter citrus: lemon peel and pithy grapefruit bitterness. Bit of tangerine in there too. Lots of interesting herb and spice notes come through and linger on the palate. Finish is crisp and dry as a bone, with a touch of sourness (which Iím sure would intensify with age). This is one hell of an interesting beer, very enjoyable.

Pours a hazy golden yellow from the bottle with thin white head and moderate lacing. Aroma heavy on the citrus from the galaxy hops and wit yeast. Taste is more complex, the coriander and pepper come in and kind of dance in your mouth before the bitter finish kicks in about ten seconds later. Good stuff.

Fruity aroma cloudy pour. Sweet hoppy palate full body but not heavy. First Alaskan brew Iíve tried and I will certainly try more after this one.

Pours pale yellow with a large white head. The aroma has fruity funk, earthiness, ripe pears, peaches, brett and modest malt. Not hops detected on the aroma, but the was sampled about eight months after bottling. It has medium / light body with a huge amount of sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of spiciness, earthiness/wood, peaches, brett funk and 7-Up. The finis has a plasticy/band-aid sort of thing, spice and lingering earthy hoppiness. I think I would probably like this one better fresh with the hops more present. Hopefully I can try this again and rerate in the future.

750 bottle. Huge carbonated pour. Too much. Light with orange and yeast. Citrus flavor pretty strong and the brett settles everything with a great tang. Well done.

Bottle opens with a pop from the cork and pours a clear yellow/golden with a huge white head. Aroma of brett, coriander, fruits, grapefruit, with a dry hoppiness. Taste is very clean and dry, brett mixes well with coriander and wit yeast spices, not overbearing. The brett is also well balanced with the hops also add a very nice dry bitterness to the finish with some lemon zest. Really nice stuff!

Shared by Turd - thanks, Sam! Vigorous golden pour, with a prickly champagne-like head. Dry lemon zest and pepper in the nose, with brighter fruits and a funky hint coming through as well. Lively body, nice peppery bite on the palate. Flavors are really fulsome and pleasing, with the wine character coming through nicely along with cracked pepper, rind, and lightly tart fruit alongside abundant hops. Maybe not quite as good as Bitter Monk to me, but still righteous.
