A slightly hoppy, yeasty sour smell cleanses the nasal passages, like an old wine barrel in the rain . A cloudy light amber appearance with an active head (who doesn’t like active head). A smooth entrance in to the sip with a hop explosion in the middle and a tart yeasty finish that refreshingly fades. A light fizzy feel that leaves your tongue dry to the air but still comfortably moist. Good beer for a make out session?

750 ml bottle bought @ Bierkompass.de. Plura hazy and cloudy pale golden with a huge frothy white head that slowly dissipates without leaving much lacing or trace on the glass. Smell is tiny sweet, fruity, spicy and funky with crackers, plums, dry soil, white grapes, passion fruit, incense, flowery perfume, lychee, cilantro, rose water, pink grapefruit juice, cloves, barnyard, hints of allspice and very subtle hints of rubber. Taste is bitter, dry, fruity, phenolic and spicy with crackers, dry soil, cloves, pink grapefruit juice, lychee, very ripe gooseberries, passion fruit, dark grapes, wood, barnyard, pineapple, barnyard, grapefruit rinds, white grapes, dry wood, dried apricots, allspice, hay and hints of rubber. Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, very tiny round, very tiny tart, sparkling and light to medium bodied. Finish is bitter, dry and fruity with pink grapefruit juice, passion fruit, dry soil, hay, cloves, allspice, dried apricots, lemon zest, pineapple, dry wood, white grapes, white pepper, allspice, rubber and barnyard. Fuck me, Anchorage did it again! Perfection!

All sorts of things were going on here, almost all of which were in balance. Didn’t really pick up on the Brett, but the fruit was there (not in an overwhelming manner either). Slightly light in the body with a watery mouthfeel, but otherwise exceptional. Tropical fruit and wheat were the principle flavors. Exceptional aroma.

75cl bottle. It pours hazy pale yellow with a huge soapy white head. Actually, this beer exploded on me and the cork flew in the sky as soon as I loosened the cage. Huge gusher as well. Not tumultuosly, but inesorably gushing until you reach south of half the bottle. Prepare some empty glasses around! Anyways, back tro smell: divine. This is just amazing. Hops, citrus, orange peel, brett, funk, black pepper, violets, white wine. Great. Taste is nothing less, with a great complexity and yet refreshing. White wine, oak, hops, citrus peel, orange zest, flowery and peppery, brett and funk, farmhouse character. Outstanding. Medium mouthfeel with lively carbonation. Overall, distinct, complex, refreshing. Close to perfection in a bottle.

750 cc from Capone’s. Pours turbid straw colored, not really gold or copper, but more like a lime margarita color, with big 3-finger white head that ;aces well. Nose is slightly funky assy galaxy hops, with huge tropical fruity pineapple, tangerine, and grapefruit. Tastes citric, with grapefruit, lime, pineapple, heavy assy yeasty funk, and a complex finish. As with all Anchorage beers, this one is delicious.

Bottle from Last Drop.

Could this be the best bottled IPA I’ve ever had? Stiff competition from Sculpin, Pliny, and (in a very different way) Two Hearted, but this is certainly the most interesting among the IPA standouts, and quite plausibly the best. None of those quite pull a 4.5 in the bottle, so I think this one takes it. Only competitor at 4.5 is another IPA -- or rather IIPA also from Alaska with Brett: 3767 from Midnight Sun.

Pear juice pour with a full white head. Aroma is a ten if I’ve ever experienced it. Huge grapefruit juice --- the sort that comes in a 5.5oz foil-topped can -- and plenty of weed with threads of brett and oak wafting through. Now that I know it’s got kumquats I can tell they’re there contributing to the delicious juicy citrus, but I wouldn’t have called it without reading the label. Pepper is prominent in the flavor, as is that kumquot/white grapefruit. Brett is subtle but adds substance to the long end of the flavor. Amazing what they can do with 50 IBUs; the beer has tons of flavor and more than enough bittering.

At 12 bucks I thought this was expensive until I tasted it; now I think it’s great value for what Anchorage provides and I’ll be hoping to get my hands on additional bottles.

Bottle. Pours golden amber with a white head. Awesome aroma of fresh hops and a hint of funk. Medium bodied with semi soft carbonations. Nice pale malt backdrop that really showcases the Galaxy hops, which are loaded with exotic fruit goodness. Finishes semi dry and spicy. The brett character is young, but in this case- works perfectly by emphasizing the hops and not drying it out too much. I am shocked at the low ratings. One of my favorites of the tasting, and perhaps a top 10 IPA for me. Loved it.
