This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel. Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head. Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

50cl bottle. Pours chestnut brown with a red hue, gentle bubbles and a nicely proportioned head. This disappears after a while, so not quite perfect, but very good. The nose has fruit cake, some sweet spice. The taste has more fruit cake with molasses, dried fruit and a touch of sweet spices. The palate is medium to full bodied with a big mouthfeel and a reasonable finish that makes you want to take another drink. Overall, a big tasty beer.

Details: Bottle purchased from Hometown Spirits. Aroma: The nose is molasses and raisins. There are subtle notes of Worstchershire sauce. Appearance: Deep dark brown, but still transparent. Rich tan head about 1.5" tall which disappears to a thin cap shortly after pouring. Bubbles are visibly apparent. Taste: Sweet with further notes of molasses and prunes. The barest notes of bitter in the finish. Palate: Medium full bodied with a slight effervescence on the tongue. Somewhat mouth coating leaving trailing notes of the aromas. Overall: A remarkable beer well suited to a piece of wheat bread or pumpernickel and a sharp cheese. Equally a match for grilled or roasted meats, and perhaps for smoked and peppered dishes as well.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2015 Bottle bbe 10.12.15. Dark brown beer with a small quickly vanishing head. Sweetish aroma of malt and honey. Pretty flat taste of malt and nuts with minuscule hints of dried fruit. Somewhat nice but not breathtaking.

Pours a dark chestnut brown color with mahogany edges and a two finger, frothy beige head that very slowly settles into a lasting ring. Impressive retention with sporadic streaks of lace left behind. Toasted, slightly smokey aroma with a nice balance of sweet and roasted malt notes. Lots of toffee and caramel along with some bready yeast and subtle zesty spice. I’’ surprised about the roasted/smokey element by it adds another dimension to the swee malt profile. On the fuller end of medium body with a smokey roasted malt presence that gives off a decent amount of lingering bitterness. Hints of toast, smoke and subtle BBQ/smoked meat followed by caramel and toffee sweetness. This is balanced by a strong bready yeast presence as well as some hazelnut and a touch of rye spice. Sweetness nicely counters the roast/toasted malts. Finishes dry and slightly tart. Well balanced and refreshing. ABV is barely noticeable making this complex beer very easy to drink.

Aroma: malts, a little caramel and honey, a faint fruity note (plums, grapes, this kind of thing), a bit of dark bread, and a little bit of alcohol. Appearance: dark brown; clear; head small, unstable. Taste: sweet and mildly bitter. Palate: body full; carbonation soft; finish sweet and a bit bitter; spicy from alcohol, in a pleasant way; a bit tart. Overall: really nice, intense but not overwhelming. Maybe just a tad too sweet, both in the aroma and in the taste. Quite enjoyable nonetheless.

Piana delikatnie beżowa, średniopęcherzykowa, nietrwała. Piwo nie koronkuje. Barwa głęboko rubinowa, czerwone refleksy. W smaku alkoholowe, brakuje słodyczy, kwaśności, generalnie wszystkiego. Odczucie w ustach żadne, goryczki brak, wysycenie niskie.

Botella. Color rojizo oscuro. Limpia.

Draught @ Cooper Craft Kitchen Chelsea. Dark brown with faint reddish tint, small foamy beige head, faint fruity aroma, medium carbonation, caramel taste, well balanced caramel malt taste, abrupt finish. Very well balanced brew, the high alcohol content is well managed.

Nice ruby color, medium beige head. Sweet caramel, malt, dried fruits, raisins, spices and cherries in aroma. Dried fruits, spices in taste, Low carbonation, medium to full bodied. OK, but IMO not that spectacular to be the 2nd doppelbock on RB.
