fiulijn (5900), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 20, 2003 Brown, dark amber color with ruby shades; beautiful, generous, thick creamy head. Malt aroma, sweetish, very light Madeira; aroma typical of dunkles. Sweet, loads of malt, balanced by the bitterness only at the end. Solid, absolutely well balanced, powerful, malty, aromatic hop at the end. Undoubtly one of the best bottled German beers.
undsioux7 (506), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Sep 21, 2008 Pours dark amber/copper with a nice sized off white head. Aroma of caramel and nuts (grimreesers). Taste is the same. Very smooth grimreeser (739), Minnesota, USA Sep 21, 2008 Pours a darkish amber with a good size head. Nice big aroma of caramel and nut. Nice sweet flavor. larsga (2326), Oslo, Norway Sep 18, 2008 Small light brown head. Deep brownish red body. Deep strong earthy caramelly malt aroma with roasty oily toffee notes and traces of wild berries. Dry-sweet roasty caramelly taste with earthy notes. Light mouthfeel. Chocolatey toffee can also be noted. Sweetish wooden caramel finish with minty notes. Lovely! (0.1l taster from bottle at EBF’08.) Todeon (214), Höllviken, Sweden Sep 14, 2008 Bottle @ EBF. Nice brown color. Aroma was a bit murky with some fruity and malty notes along with some bread. Flavor was malty with some fruity and sweet notes. Not as good as expected. IMtheOptimator (1122), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Sep 13, 2008 This was a gift from beeryum some time ago, opened at the faculty Oktoberfest. Poured a rich mahogany with a tall creamy off-white head which refused to dissipate. Rich aroma hits of smoke, raisins, pipe tobacco, biscuit dough and caramel toffee, alluring and inviting. Flavor is a mix of sweet and dry, with notes of raisins, molasses and caramel, a touch of toffee. Terrific, terrific beer, reminding me why this is my favorite German style. As the bottle emptied to the sound of the overwhelming praise of my fellow faculty members, I could not help but curse my inability to get more of this brew.
