COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel. Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head. Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a reddish hue and a nice light brown head. Aroma is sweet malty to dried fruity. Quite sweet flavour. Medium to fullbodied. Distinct bread flavour and slight spiced. Very delicious brew. Ends slight warming with a decent bitterness. Great.

A deep red beer with a small fast disappearing head. It has a very sweet aroma with notes of alcohol and rowan berries. It has a very powerful bock taste with lots of sweetness, rowan berries, and notes of alcohol. But it is a little flat. It has a good palate. It's very much like Carlsberg now discontiued Semper Ardens Bock.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown (almost cola-flavoured) with a huge, neat and lightly brownish head. Wonderful nutty nose and immensely full and malty aromas. Has some of the same flavour-patterns as Belgian trappists - although a higher bitterness. A great bock indeed. 201099

Bottled (thanks DerDoppelbock). Very dark amber colour, beige mediumsized head. Aroma of malts, some alcohol and caramel. Lovely balance. Hoppy malty and sweet vegetably flavour. Aftertaste is grassy, hayish and malty. Lovely palate also.

An outstanding doppelbock. Delicious, big maltiness, loads of flavours, perfectly balanced. The Andechs cloister itself is well worth a visit, but a bit dangerous if you walk up the hill on a hot summer’s day and then try to cure your thirst with doppelbock...

Warning! Early amateur rating! Thick dark brown beer with a slight sour worcester sauce falvour. Crisp and dry palate. Tasty. Refreshing.

It pours a beautiful dark brown color with generous creamy head. The oxidization in the aroma and flavor is moderate; the aroma is mild; the flavor portraits a good mix of dark caramel and chocolate; the bitterness is fading; it still has a good body structure and a soft and lean mouthfeel; as often happens, the final has some roasted nuts.
Still very good.

Dark mahogany color; generous creamy head. Aroma of dark caramel, mild, a bit oxidized. Good body strength; the flavor is quite malty, even if there is a dominance of caramel and light roasted malts, also with a nutty touch; the final shows more the roasted malts than the malt and the body is a bit drier, therefore not resulting as an exceptional beer.

Brown, dark amber color with ruby shades; beautiful, generous, thick creamy head.
Malt aroma, sweetish, very light Madeira; aroma typical of Dunkles.
Sweet, loads of malt, balanced by the bitterness only at the end. Solid, absolutely well balanced, powerful, malty, aromatic hop at the end.
Undoubtedly one of the best bottled German beers.
