porterhouse (951), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 19, 2006 (Bottle (best by 12/29/05) via trade with beeryum, thanks Dave!) Dark honey-brown body with a half-inch of soft biscuit head. Aroma is fairly mild - honey and malt sweetness. Only very slight lacing. Mouthfeel is very smooth but actually fairly light-bodied. Flavor is honey and malty sweetness overlain by light bitterness. Leaves a honey aftertaste. Nice stuff but thought there’d be more - pretty flavorful but not really complex. Slight alcohol apparency in finish. Honeyish flavor and smoothness were probably most notable qualities.

Nice sweet flavor. larsga (2311), Oslo, Norway Sep 18, 2008 Small light brown head. Deep brownish red body. Deep strong earthy caramelly malt aroma with roasty oily toffee notes and traces of wild berries. Dry-sweet roasty caramelly taste with earthy notes. Light mouthfeel. Chocolatey toffee can also be noted. Sweetish wooden caramel finish with minty notes. Lovely! (0.1l taster from bottle at EBF’08.) Todeon (211), Höllviken, Sweden Sep 14, 2008 Bottle @ EBF. Nice brown color. Aroma was a bit murky with some fruity and malty notes along with some bread. Flavor was malty with some fruity and sweet notes. Not as good as expected. IMtheOptimator (1120), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Sep 13, 2008 This was a gift from beeryum some time ago, opened at the faculty Oktoberfest. Poured a rich mahogany with a tall creamy off-white head which refused to dissipate. Rich aroma hits of smoke, raisins, pipe tobacco, biscuit dough and caramel toffee, alluring and inviting. Flavor is a mix of sweet and dry, with notes of raisins, molasses and caramel, a touch of toffee. Terrific, terrific beer, reminding me why this is my favorite German style. As the bottle emptied to the sound of the overwhelming praise of my fellow faculty members, I could not help but curse my inability to get more of this brew.
