COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel. Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head. Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

Bottle in Frankfurt. It pours clear mahogany brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is caramel, toast, raisin, sultana, dried cherry, wood and vinous notes. The taste is toasty, earth, wood, leather, cocoa, plenty of dried fruits, light spice and decent bitterness with a dry, woody finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Well rounded and pretty flavoursome. A great doppelbock.

Truly a great doppelbock with excellent sweet malty character the shows layers of complexity between caramel candy, sweet chocolate, bitter chocolate, hints of fruit. Great stuff.

Don’t really know a great deal about the style. An enjoyable ale, sweet, vinuous. Tastes the 7.1% ABV but very drinkable.

500 ml bottle. Not totally sure why I bought this, but I’m glad I did. Pours clear, dark brown with ruby hues and off white, fine-bubbled head. Beautiful, lush malty aroma: dark fruit, plums, rich dark molasses, even some cocoa. Taste: moderately sweet with a surprisingly dry, roast finish. Love the complexity here. Palate: full body, velvety texture, light carbonation. Overall: it’s telling that I’m always surprised by how flavorful and multi-faceted these malt-focused classics can be. It’s definitely something I don’t seek out or find much when following my usual tendencies, and that is to my detriment.

Dark brown pour, with an off white head, sweet taste of malt and caramel with a light hop finish, good Doppelbock.

Pours dark brown with beige head. Very nice, malty aroma. Taste a bit flat. Lightish beer, almost delicate. Definately not the strongest in its class.

Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with caramel in the background. Taste of fruit and malt. Full, soft and well in balance.
